🚨 A large amount of data has been stolen from Leicester City Council following a cyber attack. Once again, this attack highlights that a cavalier approach to cybersecurity just won't cut it for any business.The attack took place at the start of March and although it was originally thought that 25 documents had been stolen, the City Council has since announced that 1.3 terabytes of data has been stolen - considerably more than previously thought.The council has said it is working closely with the authorities. 🚨 As we approach the end of the financial year, tax scams and phishing emails are rife.It's so important to stay vigilant, and if in doubt don't click.Questions to ask yourself:🚩 Is the email address someone you know and is it correct? Small variations or typos are signals it's a malicious email. A new contact at an organisation you're familiar with that you've not been introduced to is also a signal of a malicious email.🚩Are you expecting this link or attachment? If not, you should get in touch with the sender in a different way to confirm it's legit.🚩 Is it urgent? Oftentimes phishing emails create a sense of urgency or panic, so you react without thinking.👉 These tips should be your last line of defence though. Relying on yourself and your colleagues to spot phishing emails isn't a bulletproof method.
