OBITUARIES David Westermann, 78; Was Active Leader on LI By Ed Lowe STAFF WRITER David Westermann, 78, former president, chief executive and chairman of the Hazeltine Corp. in Greenlawn, and an active leader in Long Island charities and community organizations, died Thanksgiving morning at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, after a long struggle with diabetes and renal failure. In his heyday as CEO of one of Long Island's bestknown and oldest defense companies, Mr. WesterMann "was an all-out advocate for advancing Long Island's quality of life and economy," according to former publisher and columnist Paul Townsend, a fellow Columbia University Law School graduate and lifelong friend.
