Protect the Puppies from Greed - Please sign for the Animals
Over $1 Million in funding was originally intended to save the lives of animals. However, corruption and greed entered the equation and the animals are struggling to survive. Help us redirect funding to the puppies and kittens that will provide critical medical and relocation support. We need you because the Humane Society and the Best Friends Society have deceived all of us. The abused animals in Atlanta, Augusta and the State of Georgia deserve access to safe homes, proper funding and healthcare to prevent euthanasia. Thousands of animals are dying because of the misappropriation of animal funds that were restricted for puppies and kittens and over 3000 homeless animals. Please help us eliminate the fake contracts to unlicensed relatives and save lives!!!!
The funds that were originally donated by taxpayers and donors across the United States has been fraudulently diverted to spurious secret funds, mysterious contractors and executive salary increases. Instead of exercising efficient and prudent financial practices the executives have been leasing Air B&B suites instead of less expensive hotel rooms. Waste and fraudulent practices by executives have placed the health of animals and their well-being at risk through their negligent actions.
Sick Puppies used for ProfitsIn January of 2023, the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia requested $1 Million to save the lives of thousands of cats and puppies however, money has been redirected to unrelated purchases while the animals suffer and die. Volunteers have been using there personal cars because the Humane Society refuses to release the mobile units and resources for volunteers. There are 2 mobile units that could have been utilized to bring animals to foster families and medical in other cities but the vans were left underutilized in the parking lot.
According to the Vice President of Finance, the unused funding was utilized for the CEO's special contracts to friends and relatives that had a strong desire to grab the lucrative kennel renovation project. The finance executive is knowledgeable of the CEO's suspicious behavior but he is afraid to provide additional details because the CEO, Allison Mayfield will retaliate against him. These corrupt contractors have kept the slush money that was given to them in advance by the CEO and not completed the project according to our community volunteers that have been waiting on the contract to be completed since the beginning of the year. Additionally, the VP of Finance is aware that the husband and boyfriend of her two Vice Presidents - (ES and KC) requested the kennel renovation contract for themselves but the CEO demanded that the Best Friends 'puppy money' be directed to her son that needed beer money. All of these records are documented because thousands of dollars have been given to these relatives and fake contractors according to the VP of Finance.
Initially the community volunteers trusted the Humane Society and their promise to lead this $1 Million contract for the animals so the Augusta Animal Services eliminated and then transferred their community outreach initiatives and efforts to the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. They were promised that thousands of cats and puppies would be placed into foster homes and additionally hundreds of cats would be spayed and neutered. However, they were deceived. Less than 10% of the goal for fostering and animal saves has been achieved despite the fact that almost $500,000 has been given to the Humane Society. Our community volunteers observed animals being transported in cramped economy cars and stuffed into small unsanitary operating rooms. Volunteers and veterinarians have been forced to struggle with a small amount of supplies for thousands of animals even though they have pleaded with the Humane Society, Allison Mayfield and Erica Shepherd to send medical resources for the sick animals. Now, they simply clean and reuse the same supplies and medical equipment. The originally restricted funds have been utilized for the contracts and benefits of personal friends and relatives of the CEO. How can the CEO could explain why a facility has not been opened in 10 months and the mobile unit has not been allocated to save the lives of animals after months of sitting in the parking lot.
The commitment of the Humane Society and Best Friends to the animals of Georgia has been weak, fraudulent and sporadic. For example, the Augusta City Council was promised that over 3000 neglected animals in Augusta would receive a mobile unit to perform health checks, emergency medical transportation and free animal medical services. Over $750,000 was given in advance to the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia to lease a small facility, hire staff and purchase transportation. The van was purchased 5 months ago and our volunteers have photos of the vehicle sitting in a Gainesville, Georgia parking lot. Our volunteers begged Allison Mayfield the CEO of the Humane Society to honor the true purpose of the mobile unit funding and deliver it to Augusta and she has ignored our volunteers request for the sick animals.
Problem #1 - Fraudulent Family Friends posing as Puppy/Cat Kennel Contractors
Our community volunteers begged Ms. Mayfield to lease a facility in Augusta to facilitate the housing and health of the animals in our small town since she received a $1 Million contract. We even submitted a list of 20 vacant facilities for her review to stop the euthanasia of the animals. After 7 months she finally committed to a facility but she gave the renovation contract to her family friend that refused to complete the kennel even though she gave him thousands of dollars in advance.
Problem #2 - Illegal Activity and Wasted FundsWhen the community members questioned Contractor #1 about his refusal to complete the project, he stated that he was a friend of the CEO and he would finish when he had spare time. Then when he did not finish the job, Ms. Mayfield gave the contract to Contractor #2 which was her son. He received thousands of dollars for supplies to complete the work even though he was not a licensed contractor and had never built a kennel in his life. He bragged about the contract because he said his mom can do whatever she desires because the board is in her back pocket. He told one of our volunteers that he will not finish the job until next year because he has other priorities that are more important that the animals. The lives of cats and puppies is being neglected while the CEO’s son enjoys two salaries and finishes the kennels at his leisure.

Send a message to the CEO and Erica Shepherd of the Humane Society that funds should not be wasted and the community desperately needs the mobile unit activated. Inform Allison that secret contracts for her son are a waste of donated and restricted dollars.

Questions that Volunteers need to be answered ASAP!
-The community in Augusta has been waiting for many months for the Humane Society to fulfil their promise to the people of Augusta. Why have they withheld the mobile unit, funding and other resources from the Augusta community? One of the community volunteers actually told us that the van has been sitting in the parking lot for almost 6 months when it could have been used to save the lives of many animals. WHY???
-Why has the CEO’s son delayed the renovation of the animal kennel for over 3 months?
-Why is it not a priority to save the lives of animals rather than fill the pocket of the CEO’s son?
- Is the CEO’s son a licensed and bonded contractor?
-Will Hispanics, Asians and other minorities have access to these special contracts? Does Best Friends endorse this type of special favoritism and superiority of certain groups?
- According to the Vice President of Finance the contractors which included her son were given thousands of dollars before they even started the contract months ago?
-Did the contractors agree to a timeline to ensure that we were focused on saving the lives of animals as soon as possible?
Commitment to Animal Welfare vs. Corporate Complacency and Greed
-Why did Best Friends have such a ‘hands off’ approach to managing this project that has been underperforming despite the large amount of funds ($1M) allocated to the Humane Society?
-How many animals died or suffered while the Humane Society had the emergency mobile unit parked in the garage rather than out in the community saving lives?
- Why was the funding intended for saving lives directed toward other pet projects of Allison and Erica instead of saving lives in Augusta and South Georgia?
-Does Best Friends have any standards for fair contracting or legal procedures for implementation of a project?
-Has Walmart and Credit One been informed about these illegal activities involving their funding of Best Friends?
-When will Best Friends investigate this fraud?
-Will the results of the investigation be published?
-If Best Friends has a commitment to ‘No Kill 25’ then why did they allow the Humane Society to be such an unengaged and casual partner?
-When several volunteers talked to one of the contractors for the building, he stated that his mother was the CEO of the Humane Society and he would finish when he had time from other jobs. That was a very insulting statement to the community. Why are the people in Augusta forced to wait for the CEO’s son to make the Augusta community a priority? Also, her son said he was not a licensed and bonded contractor. Is that legal?
-It does not take 5 months to install flooring and make electrical upgrades if you are using licensed professionals.
-How are the staff transporting the animals if the Humane Society will not release the mobile unit to the Augusta community? Are they throwing them in the back of a honda when 2 vans are sitting in the parking lot?
-Why has the Humane Society not been picking up animals in Augusta at the rate that was promised? It is impossible for them to pick up the animals if the van is in Gainesville instead of Augusta. That is a waste of resources that could be saving the lives of many animals. I heard that the van was purchased almost 6 months ago. This is very concerning.
- I understand that Ms. Mayfield promised the Augusta City Council that she would help alleviate the cat problem. However, she is making it the situation worse because the city has not been picking up stray cats due to the fact that Ms. Mayfield promised she would perform those tasks. Why did Ms. Erica Mayfield and Ms. Allison Mayfield ignore their commitment to the animals and families in Augusta for the past year and not provide services to 25 animals a day? A $1 Million grant is enough funding to provide services for 25 animals a day. Volunteer organizations are serving 2 times that quantity of animals without a large budget.
-If the Humane Society began receiving funding 8 months ago, why did they delay launching the project if there were employees on board in Augusta without any resources? We cannot locate a building or a mobile unit? This project has been pure deception. What happened to the money that was given to the Humane Society?
