Great to see the roots and the story behind one of our greatest Presidents ever. Lots of artifacts, and the docent was very informative. It's a bit off the beaten path but worth the stop.

Wish I had time to actually go through, but was limited on time, but glad I seen it. The little lady inside brought me out a pamphlet which was kind of her. Greatest President ever!

Brian D — Google review

Great learning about a great president in the making. The guide was informative and fun to talk with. Displays and moment's from Reagan's boyhood plus a lot of things in the old bank. Museum shop had some great items.

Donna M — Google review

A beautiful place with wonderful staff! Put tour guide (Toni) was so sweet and was super well informed about all things President Regan. The town itself was so sweet and everyone we saw waved and wished us a good day. 11/10 !!!

Bunny F — Google review

We truly enjoyed our visit and Gary was very knowledgeable!! Such a sweet little town that had an impact in our country's history.

Denise O — Google review

Beautiful and informative site about the president and history. The guide was perfect. Thank you for a nice and comprehensive presentation. Our children didn't even talk about how excited they were. Thanks again Gabriel

Gabriela T — Google review

Not sure what we expected here, but the tour was interesting and informative. Our tour guide/docent was animated, knowledgeable, and clever; a "born and raised" Tampico resident. She pointed out numerous items in the jam-packed exhibit and gift shop rooms. The period-restored 2nd floor Reagan apartment appeared well set and maintained. The bank replica restoration on the first floor was fascinating. Free-will donations accepted. Please tip big; they could use it.

Eddis G — Google review

Coming to this amazing National Historic Marker was such a beautiful experience. I remember reading about how Ronald Reagan impacted our economy when he was our 40th President. But to see where he was born and the beauty of a small taken such as Tampico, Illinois was superb. There are older buildings and a small gift store where Mr. Reagan was born, definitely worth the travel.

Lucky P — Google review

We had a very informative tour of President Regan's birth place and history of his boyhood home. On memorial day weekend, we should celebrate our patriotism and he was one of the greatest presidents of our time. Make your way to this tiny little piece of history, you will be surprised what you learn 🤓

Jen S — Google review

A piece of american history. Nice little town in the middle of nowhere. Really worth spending an hour or so. Does not dramatically increase your travel time but adds a bunch to tavel memories bank.

State park

Nature & Parks

2,500-acre park with forest, river, bluffs & rock formations for outdoor sports, camping & picnics.

Beautiful place! I brought my kids who were 10 at the time. We camped in the state park it was nice. Make sure you check the length of some hikes! We ended up on a rather long one that was a very steep incline all the way up! We're all season hikers but it was a pretty tough hike considering it was about 95°. There is nice outlooks that you don't have to hike far too you can always drive up to them. One of the only places in Illinois you can rock climb no permit necessary!

Ryan B — Google review

If you like hilly hiking trails, this is a good place to go. Just be aware that the trails are narrow, and there is a lot of poison ivy by the trails. It's a good idea to wear long pants for the hikes. There are plenty of nice picnic areas and shelters in the park. The overlooks to the river are amazing. The camp ground is not crowded and pleasant to stay. A busy railway is close by, if you are not a deep sleeper, bring a few good ear plugs.

Lan F — Google review

Nice state park along the Mississippi River in NW Illinois. The Sentinel, Sunset, and Pine Trail is excellent and has great views. Parts of all trails can be overgrown so take note. Not a very busy park at all so you can hike in peace here.

FFKDTP1 — Google review

Went up there with group of close friends and family. Was Packed at one of the popular sites bc they had a group of young climbers, so we drove down a little farther to the Face of Doom. We setup three ropes and spent the day. Wasn't packed at all back there, two small groups of two people came and used our ropes. Here's a picture of one of the climbs. It would of gotten 5 stars but since 3/4s of the park is closed the remaining climbs have been polished making it not as much fun as it used to be 10 years ago or so. But still had one of the best days of the year for sure.

Nick P — Google review

Mississippi Palisades State Park is a great place for family camping. Campsites are spacious and the access to the Missouri river is easy. Nearby, Savannah, offers supplies and restaurants, and other small towns nearby are fun to visit. Maquoketa caves are terrific and it’s only a stones throw to visit lovely Galena. There are some lovely overlooks to hike to I understand but we did not make it to them.

Aj S — Google review

Some of the trails are a little bit overgrown, so I would recommend longer pants if you don't like that. There are a couple of restroom areas and are well maintained. Lots of cool views especially in the fall time! I would also recommend going through all of the trails in one day, it's quite the little day hike!

Maxwell R — Google review

We spent a wonderful weekend in April 2002 at the state park with BSA. The park was in good condition and the bathrooms were nice and clean. The ground was wet but it’s that time of year. I will definitely be back

Jesus G — Google review

We were staying in the area and drove out to see the sights. It didn’t take long to drive between the various lookouts and there were short walks to the various platforms. Almost all of them had benches to sit on and soak in the sights. It wasn’t crowded when we went - in fact, we saw a couple groups leaving and one person sitting at a table, but we were otherwise alone in the woods - save a furry friend we found on the way out… 🕷🕸The northern platforms are accessible by slopes, the southern ones had more stairs. They were all well-maintained.

Jeannine S — Google review

Really enjoy visiting this park. I have been visiting this park for the past 30 years and it always has great views, good trails, and we always seem to meet great people out here! The spring wildflowers are a treat on the Sentinel trail.

Brad A — Google review

It was a gorgeous stop! The point of my trip up there was to get in some hikes/walks... see the leaves changing (I was a little early, so not a ton of changes yet)... and get some great views.... My friend did not disappoint by bringing me here. Many asked if he was taking me to this park - so glad he did because it was beautiful! Once I can get my knees fixed and I can hike even further, I want to go back as I was limited to one path before pain kicked in. But even with bad knees, the trails aren't that bad at all - it killed me nit to go on more. Can't wait to go back! A great place to visit!!

Dawn M — Google review

Absolutely breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. Amazing how the railroad tracks run right along the edge. Lots of little over looks on the ledges to look out, trails, camping. Nice bathroom facilities. Amazing wildlife and nature. Trails and trails. Gorgeous and peaceful. Tons of grilling and picnic areas and also plenty of parking.

Courtney B — Google review

Just a 2.5 hour road trip out west towards Iowa from Chicago. The weather was cool from the rain passing through. Luckily the trails were mostly dry. This park is well-known for the lookout points over the Mississippi River on the Sentinel Trail and the Sunset Trail. The Sunset Trail is easier and the lookout point is accessible by car. Most of the hiking trails were well-maintained, but there were a few overgrown sections, especially the Prairie View Trail (short loop). I recommend you skip it and go straight to the Pine Trail which leads down to the Twin Sisters (rock formation). Overall, beautiful natural park. I would love to go back and camp out here to watch the sunset over the Mississippi River.

Andy P — Google review

This park is great for camping. Lot of camping sites available. There are few point where you can drive for awesome view. Few hiking trails are also available. The route to this park is also beautiful.

Mangesh W — Google review

Trails are rugged and offer a good hike and some good views. However, it is quite clear the State of Illinois doesn't take care of the park or the trails. Hiking paths not updated or taken care of.Grass paths overgrown and tree trunks laying the middle of the trail. I will not be going back anytime soon. Would have given it one star except for the views.

Abe M — Google review

My camping experience at Mississippi Palisades State Park was absolutely wonderful! The natural beauty of the park is truly breathtaking, with stunning views of the Mississippi River and unique rock formations. The campgrounds were well-maintained and had all the necessary amenities. The hiking trails offered a variety of scenic routes, and I had a fantastic time exploring the diverse landscapes. Whether it was hiking along the riverbanks or climbing to higher vantage points for panoramic views, there was always something captivating to see.The park staff were friendly and helpful, making check-in and any inquiries a breeze.

Dimo R — Google review

Lookouts beautiful, after reading other reviews about the bugs I was worried but it was not that bad at all. Ranger Very nice, we camped in a tent,.went fishing, and hiking. The bathrooms could use some updating but flush toilets and hot showers. It is dog friendly

J&V C — Google review

Beautiful quiet place. The closest thing to Tennessee mountains you will see in illinois. Steps to the view pictured aren't bad, but it is not handicap accessible. It's worth the drive.

Saw the new Top Gun movie. It was great as was thus theater. Great reclining seats ,free refills on drinks and popcorn. It was also very clean and very nice restrooms. Our go to place to watch a big screen movie. Surround sound is very hood here also.

Steve C — Google review

Our favorite place to see a movie. It’s very clean they also have reclining seats the best pop corn according to my Grand-Daughter and plenty of snacks to choose from. Free refills on pop corn and soda. I have not had one bad experience here. Would recommend to anyone.

Tracy L — Google review

I'm glad they kept this theater alive. The lobby is pretty bare but clean. The popcorn is fresh. The speakers are loud. The seats are comfortable. The staff is friendly and you can order your tickets ahead of time and pick your seat. A good little theater.

Josh — Google review

Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of snack options to choose from. Popcorn is very good. Seating in the theater is excellent. The seats recline for comfort. Sound was excellent. Cleanliness of the entire theater including the restrooms was perfect.

Christopher A — Google review

Movie and entertainment related experience was amazing especially with the reclining seats. I am very disappointed however that the acade games and claw machines of the past seem to be just that of the past and not soon to return. Service was polite and easy. There is more than enough parking and is wheelchair accessible as well as the building itself. The bathrooms were clean and spacious

Shakti A — Google review

Comfortable heated, reclining seats. Great sound and good concessions with free refills. I accidentally dropped my garage remote, and they kept it locked up for me after they found it, until I came back looking for it. It's been my favorite theater since I moved to Plano.

LedBeatle 7 — Google review

First time here and I like it! It was a little empty but it could be because I went on a Monday. Seats are very fancy and comfortable!! The best part of the seats is that they can recline back!!! Popcorn was tasty. Movie quality was great as well!! Went to see Peter Rabbit and I enjoyed it! Movie theater is very clean and there is a variety of candy to buy from. Definitely recommend this theater even if you have a big group with you. I would come back to this movie theater again especially that it is really close to me.

Ramon M — Google review

This theater was excellent it was the perfect touch of modern with the touch of retro. The movies were of great quality and sound, the food and snacks were the perfect price. My family and I had a blast!

JC G — Google review

Friendly and helpful staff. Yummy snack choices and usually pretty clean for the most part. We always like coming here for our family movie nights :)

Rose — Google review

Best theater in the area. The seats recline and are heated. If the movie isn't good, you can take a great nap

Andrew F — Google review

They've done an excellent job renovating this theater! It was very spacious and there was lots of room in the seats! Plus they had free refills on the popcorn and soda! Took my 5 and 3 year old to see Despicable Me 3! They loved it too! The screen was great quality as well!

Steven G — Google review

Wow! Went to this theater for the first time last night and I am impressed! The seats were comfortable! Love the heat option on the seats. Very clean and staff was friendly. Prices were good! We did go on the $5 Tuesday deal which made me feel like it was a steal for this theater. Parking was packed due to the big name movies out and Tuesdays in the summer are Cruise Night in that parking lot. Can’t wait to go back!

Jordan S — Google review

Great price; especially on Tuesdays!!!The MOVIE experience is phenomenal. The theaters are clean and offer EXCELLENT seating. Out of this world, SURROUND SOUND and delicious concession items with refills on POPCORN and SODA.You will NOT be disappointed with your MOVIE experience at this theater.

The Discovery Center Museum offers an enjoyable and informative experience for kids through its exhibits, workshops, crafts, and experiments. The museum also features an outdoor playground that kept the children entertained for a while. Although it costs an additional dollar per person to access Discovery Town, it is worth the extra expense as it is a popular attraction among kids. Visitors are advised to arrive early in order to fully explore all of the exhibits before closing time at 4:00 pm.

This place is ahhhhMazing! We bought a membership this year and so glad we did! We go once a week and my kids 4 & 1 only are able to explore only 1/4 of it each time which is perfect. The staff here are so interactive too, they show them how to make bubbles, one guy even dressed up and did a whole pirate fight with my 4yo, it was so sweet to see. Thanks for being such a great time.

L H — Google review

From the outside I wasn't expecting much, but I was so so wrong. They had so many exhibits and fun things to learn and do. My kids loved it and even after playing for 2 and 1/2 hours there were still not ready to go. And the extra dollar per ticket was totally worth it to see the special exhibit. It is a must stop for those with kids. Especially on days that are well into the 90s and 100s (it was cool inside on a super hot and muggy day).

Nikol R — Google review

We've been members since we moved here 4 years ago. Amazing deal if you ask me. Always have a place to take the kids for a couple hours especially when cooped up in the winter. So many different things to do. Love their Friday night events. The tot classes are so great, just wish their slots didn't fill up so fast and I'm not sure how to take them anymore with the no sibling policy. But I love that there's a discount for other museums across the country. Used it in Milwaukee but wish more museums in Chicago were apart of it.

Kelli S — Google review

Went here with daughter 12 and son 11 for pumpkin smashing event. Kids had a blast watching the pumpkins flying through the air and a staff member pummeling pumpkins with a giant mallet. Afterwards visited the museum which we had been to before for some additional fun. Due to COVID pandemic you did need to buy tickets in advance and for slotted entry time. There was a crowd and most were following safety protocols.

Scott R — Google review

This is such a great museum with TONS of hands-on learning experiences! If you want your kids to experience everything this place has to offer, you need to plan on being there for a while! The outdoor area is very unique, so make sure you go on a day that enables your kids to play outside, too!

Michael C — Google review

Another great visit to Discovery Center! We love the grocery store/bank area. We played for an hour in there itself. I even have a little driver now!

Christina P — Google review

It’s a fun place with quite a lot for children to experience however, it needs a bit of a refresh. So much has been the same since I was a child even. The outside play area is enjoyable but really needs some maintenance and upkeep. The water play outside has been sitting for years broken down and looking awful. As I walked around the other day I realized how dingy things were looking out there. There was trash inside of a locked maintenance window that’s there to show balls being sent up to the shoots above, the paint of everything is faded. We’ve been members for years and they increase the membership price every year. I wouldn’t mind that if they were actually putting that money into improving things but that doesn’t seem to be the case.To wrap it up, yes it’s a fun place but for the people who have grown up with this place and are now bringing our children here over and over, we can see the need for improvements. The employees could be friendlier and customer service oriented. They don’t ever seem to be having a good time.

A — Google review

My five kids, ranging in age from two to eleven, had so much fun here. The outdoor playground impressed my kids and occupied them for a long time. There is plenty to do inside, too. I'm not really sure why they don't just charge $11 to get in and make Discovery Town part of the museum. We paid the extra dollar per person and my kids loved it. I would never skip it if we went back and for a buck each you may as well. We didn't arrive until after 12:00 pm and they close at 4:00. In the future I would arrive as close to opening as possible since my kids didn't have time to check out all the exhibits they wanted to see. There is definitely enough to do to fill a whole day. Definitely a good value.

Nina K — Google review

Great place for kids and adults alike! A small amount of the exhibits are out of order and overall it could use some maintenance, but this place has a lot to see and do regardless. We had an absolute blast trying everything we could, both indoors and out. And very reasonable pricing to boot. It was definitely a memorable experience and worth the trip.

Chris O — Google review

We visit Discovery Center a few times each year. The environment is clean and engaging for kids from toddler through adulthood. My children enjoy both levels, and our favorite part is the awesome playground connected to the museum. (Seasonal) The only issue I have with this place with is price of admission for adults. As we are merely supervising, and the children obviously cannot go alone, we HAVE to be there.

Amber K — Google review

We have a Peoria Playhouse membership, so going here was free. Boy were we surprised when we saw how HUGE it was! There is cool stuff for kids of different ages to do around every corner. This has to be the most comprehensive play center we've ever been to. The only thing they could use is something to eat while you are there, because it's easy to spend hours there.

Jerrod W — Google review

We enjoy all the fun interactive ways to learn and play here. It brings out the kid in you and it provides new learning experiences for the whole family, for anyone regardless of your age.

Melissa P — Google review

KIDS LOVE THE MUSEUM!We had a wonderful time here at the museum. The fun way to teach science with play was exciting. They have many different exhibits for engaging kids. They do offer a huge outdoor playground. The pretend play rooms were equally fun and popular among kids.

Akila I — Google review

Spent a few hours here with my grandsons. What a great hands on place for kids! There was so much to do and explore. There was also a huge outdoor play area for the nicer weather. Highly recommend to bring the kids here!

Denise R — Google review

Love it here! Only thing I could wish for is a working coffee area. My son loves the light table and we got a lot of fun out of the winter event! There are different areas to explore, we had older children with us and once he had fallen asleep we spent nearly 2 hours upstairs in the fitness area!

Charity ( — Google review

I loved this place 40 years ago! and now I took my Grands! They loved it so much! Wonderful areas for discovery and creative play. They want to go back. Staff members are so friendly and lovely. Highly recommend. You can take lunch and eat in their lunch room. Reasonable entrance fees and free parking.

Nancy N — Google review

Wow! We loved this place. It just didn't seem to end, one exhibit after the other! And there was so much to do upstairs, too. Great for my 2 year old but I think a 10 year old would have just as much fun!

Becca W — Google review

Fantastic children’s museum. My 7 year old grandchild is obsessed with the “smoke bubbles” and didn’t want to leave. We spent 6 hours here and he could have easily spent a few more. Worth the trip and worth the $10 price tag for all day entertainment if your child is in to STEM and science. I’d you have. A child who is more in to jungle gyms and physical play, this might not hold their interest for long.

Nkotb4me — Google review

This was so much fun! The outdoor play area is huge, and both floors have so many activities! This was also great for my older son. He has aged out of so many children's museums, but he loved this one!

Nature & Parks

Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens is an indoor botanical garden with over 11,000 sq. ft. of tropical flora and sculpture, as well as a landscaped lagoon complete with fountains and patios. It offers the perfect location for wedding photos or other events in a beautiful garden setting. The facility also features orchids on display during the winter months, adding to its already stunning appearance. Visitors can expect enthusiastic and helpful staff eager to showcase the facilities' many offerings.

I had about a 90 minute drive to get here, but it was SO worth it!! The current exhibit is amazing and the outdoor space is fantastic, even on a gray day.Even the "wet floor" signs were amazing. I took my time and was here for maybe a little more than an hour? Much longer than I was expecting, but it was just so cool.Parking was super easy, mostly everything seemed to be handicap accessible (even the small roof top garden), and admission is $10 (I believe it's a few dollars cheaper if you live in Winnebago county!).

Alison Y — Google review

A perfect Friday afternoon outing with my dad. The train display that ran through the foliage added an extra pop to the plants. Don’t miss the kaleidoscope planter. So many unique plants, playful koi throughout the waterways, and a nice set of trails to get in and around it all. We only explored indoors, but it looks like the lights at night must be breathtaking. We spent a little less than an hour and felt like we had seen it all.

Erin L — Google review

Small but beautiful with a lot packed into the conservatory. Very relaxing place to visit. The different seasonal specials are worth the visit. They are currently replacing some of the outside structures. But the gardens and pond are still beautiful

Anna R — Google review

I drove by and saw the gardens while I was in from out of town on wedding errands. An indoor location for wedding photos with a beautiful garden sounded like a great plan so I went inside and Chris (I believe that was her name) was at the counter was super sweet and excited to show off the facilities for me and helped me talk with Leslie to discuss the whole thing. Walked through the inside during the winter while they had their orchids on display and it was GORGEOUS. So thankful that the team was so sweet and enthusiastic, it just made my experience at the gardens that much better.

Lexi N — Google review

Beautiful conservatory complete with holiday decorations. Love the "flowers" that were hung from the ceiling. So pretty. The holiday lights were beautiful!! Would love to come back and see the gardens in a different season.

Donna T — Google review

Summer Food Truck Tuesday was a great way to spend an evening! Lots of variety of food to choose from, and beautiful grounds to explore! Come with your friends for a great time together!

Jennifer H — Google review

The gardens are beautifully maintained and publicly accessible year round. There are seasonal displays and art installations on occasion, as well as some permanent features. The gardens are just off the bike path/Riverwalk and can be a nice addition to your walk. This is also an excellent location to take seasonal pictures or pictures to commemorate special events. I do wish the conservatory would have some days/times free to the general public.

Jasmine G — Google review

It's a pretty place and looks well-mantained, but I wish I hadn't paid to go inside. It's just the one big room with mainly very typical plants you see at every single conservatory and sold as houseplants. Nothing particularly stood out other than the temporary art exhibition going on. If I had actually looked anything up beforehand and seen that the grounds were free to view, I wouldn't have gone in. The grounds were a nice little walk and it was cool to see some swans swimming in front! But not something to go out of your way to see unless you've never been to a conservatory in your life!

Christine N — Google review

It was great! So beautiful. The butterfly exhibit is awesome and educational. The views off of the water and water features were absolutely breathtaking. I can't wait to go back!

Kia B — Google review

This place caught us by surprise. We were driving past and saw the conservatory and the outdoor Gardens. For $10, it didn't disappoint. Tons of lush and beautiful plants inside and koi. The outdoors was very relaxing and beautiful aswell. I will return.... 💟 Also it's right by the river and the scenery is relaxing. Come see for yourself.

Lina E — Google review

It was Monday so we were not able to visit the actual conservatory. The surrounding gardens and fountains were beautiful. Our visit was very refreshing both physically and mentally.

Henry M — Google review

Absolutely breathtaking views outside as this runs alongside Rock River. Inside, I enjoyed the Koi pond just as much, if not more than, the gardens. They just brought so much peace! I expected a lot more inside, but not bad considering it only cost $10 per person. I would like to come back for the butterfly exhibit.

Linda H — Google review

We visited the conservatory out of curiosity. It is beautiful! There was a neat little area for small children to play. The wide variety of plants was nice. For Christmas, they built several small train tracks weaving through the garden areas. The outdoor Christmas lights were also beautiful and are for a nice walk.

David C — Google review

I love going to the Nicholas conservatory! Me & my daughter went to the butterfly exhibit and watched a video and made crafts. Hanging out with the butterflies while they were flying around was awesome!

Angel W — Google review

Amazing place to visit during early spring. The greenhouse has a lot to offer ranges from seasonal flower to tropical trees and colorful fishes. A few parks are also close by next to Rock River. Super cool!

Nicholas Conservatory has been a garden that I've frequented many times. I've been going here since I was a child and it's perfect for walks, bike rides, and just relaxing near nature. I've gone here for a couple events such as the lanterns, and holiday lights. I recommend coming here if you have a love for nature and spending time outdoors!

This is always a beautiful public holiday light show for families and friends to enjoy. Everything is done meticulously down to the last detail. A magnificent view if you’re looking for something special to see this holiday season. This runs through January 6th, 2024 and it’s free!

L — Google review

We visited on a NSLD day! The toddlers loved the build a train car activity. The staff were so helpful, patient and friendly. We enjoyed the gardens and the trains were so fun. Perfect nature hike medicine for a January afternoon. The koi were a big hit with the kids. The floor is slippery and wet in a few spots, so we practiced lots of redirecting and slow walking. Everyone took giant naps after. Ten out of ten, would visit again. What a gem!

Kathleen T — Google review

This was my first time here & I absolutely loved it. I am a garden fanatic so this was right up my alley. We visited on a weekday & there was no wait & only a few other visitors in the garden. It is very warm & there are misters running for the tropical plants. The plants were labeled which I appreciated. The art/sculpture installations were beautiful as were the paths, stream & coy fish. Moving outside was also great. I took so many pictures while exploring the grounds. This visit can probably be fairly quick for some but for those fascinated by flowers & plants - plan for a couple hours.

Beth W — Google review

This place is so beautiful, especially, during the Christmas Season. Walk the trails along the water’s you step inside a magical world of Christmas. Have fun with the kiddos trying to find Rudolph as you explore. Above all, don’t forget to go inside for the “town-like” train tracks. The observatory itself is so relaxing and therapeutic. Listen to the waterfall or get in sync with the flow of the water while you watch the fish swim #reuniteprettygirlgang2000

Anderson Japanese Gardens is a peaceful and expansive 12-acre garden in the traditional Japanese style, complete with a delightful farm-to-table cafe. Though not the largest of gardens, it boasts stunning beauty that makes it well worth visiting. The gift shop offers a diverse range of items for visitors to peruse, and the walking trail is enjoyable for all – particularly as certain sections are handicap accessible.

Beautiful time to go see this garden. Worth the drive! The vibrant colors of the leaves starts from the parking lot. Gorgeous place to just take your time and breathe in nature. Restaurant was ok. Regular restaurant. I wish they would up the Japanese experience with getting more authentic food. But still good I definitely recommend making a reservation. And they accommodate gluten free allergies.

Beautiful little gardens feels very authentic. There. There are lots of little spots off the path where you can sit and just enjoy the serene beauty. Highlights include the little buildings themselves that are very oriental and make and seem quite authentic. Unfortunately these gardens are quite small and for $11 entry it almost is a little too expensive. It's more like a $5 entertainment for maybe an hour maybe an hour maybe an hour maybe an hour Max

Incredible Japanese garden tucked into a suburban area of Rockford. One of the most beautiful, well maintained, and thoughtful gardens I have been to in a long time. Full of amazing little areas to discover. There is also a restaurant on site and an amazing gift shop selling all kinds of cool Japanese items including snacks. This place is well worth a visit even if you have to go out of your way a bit. The craftsmanship and care is incredible. Admission is 13 dollars for adults.

Susannah B — Google review

Peaceful and serene. Lovely environment Japanese style. There are lots of paths to walk, but many paths and sites are pretty much like a lot of other paths and sites. Don't get me wrong. It's beautiful, but it's not awe-inspiring. It's a nice walk. There's a restaurant on site which I didn't visit. For me, one visit is all I'll need.

What an amazing space inside of Rockford! Meticulously maintained gardens that are lush and full of calming water features. Really great way to spend a few hours.

Scott M — Google review

We visited on the last weekend of October and had a wonderful time. The grounds were well-maintained and there was lots to see and experience. The map was helpful since it was our first visit. There are frequent benches and seating areas which makes the route as peaceful and restful as you want it to be. We spent about an hour and half strolling the gardens. I will say, drinks at the coffee bar near the restaurant were super overpriced and serves in an unprofessional way, but everything else was top notch!

The Rockford Japanese Gardens is truly a gem worth exploring. As an avid garden enthusiast, I can confidently say that it ranks among the finest I've encountered. Located in the beautiful Rockford area, this garden offers an exquisite blend of tranquility and natural beauty. From the meticulously designed landscapes to the captivating water features, every aspect exudes a sense of serenity. The attention to detail is remarkable, showcasing the mastery of Japanese gardening techniques. Walking through the garden feels like stepping into a serene oasis, providing a much-needed escape from the bustling world. A visit to the Rockford Japanese Gardens is a must for anyone seeking solace in nature's embrace.

The organizational flow in the garden is very efficient. There was a shortage on parking, so extra parking lots were sourced from the area, with two shuttle going back and forth all day long. The restaurant offers a fair variety of foods and drinks, that were really great! Little events were staged all afternoon, and some were really educational, apart from the entertaining aspects and soothing live Japanese instrumental music. The garden itself, though not styled to present many flower types, was full of exquisite greenery, calming areas, flowing streams, waterfalls and ponds. lending itself to peaceful, contemplative states of mind.We were also able to purchase beautiful kimonos and garments for men and women.A full experience that we will return to, for certain!

Johann S — Google review

Wonderful experience! They have maps of the garden to help navigate. There is complimentary water outside the visitor center, and inside plenty for purchase. They also have restrooms inside.I thought it was fun they had fish food, for an extra purchase, that you could feed to the koi fish throughout the park. Could easily spend hours there. The park has a handicap accessible entrance and pathways as well.

Joey F — Google review

Garden was beautiful. It is not the biggest garden out there, but definitely worth the visit. The gift shop has a nice variety of items. The walking trail is great, and having certain parts handicap accessible is a plus. Make sure you buy some fish food to feed the fish and ducks, it's a fun experience to have.

Love this place, they even have little sections where you can take photos. Its breathtaking and gorgeous.Got some neat pictures with my fiancé and my brother. We chose this location because it sounded cool and it was amazing! Ive only met my brother twice and I am so glad that me and him got to see this place as one of our meet ups!!! 💗

Jinx T — Google review

It's been over 10 years since I visited Anderson Gardens and it's just as lovely as I remembered. The volunteers in the garden were helpful and the gift shop was filled with items ranging from tea sets to candies and treats that your anime loving friend would enjoy.Despite the heat and lack of significant rainfall everything looked great and there was plenty of areas to get out of the sun.

Kristen — Google review

It is an excellent place for relaxation with the family. If you are a fitness conscious individual, you will definitely get your steps here while enjoying nature. If you plan on staying for a couple of hours and you'll hit lunchtime, try to eat first before strolling so you won't have to join the crowd at the cafe during lunch hour. They have good food at a reasonable price. Expect to spend at least $20-$25/person for food.Once you are energized after a visit to their cafe, you are ready to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Sophia R — Google review

The gardens are well-maintained and easy to walk around. There are plenty of benches where you can sit and relax and enjoy the scenery. A lovely collection of Japanese gardens meticulously maintained. The docent-led tours are informative and interesting! Perfect for groups of 6-8, ok for 12 or fewer.

This is a hidden gem out in the suburbs. Located in Rockford which is quite a drive from the Chicago area. Tickets for an adult are $11-13. I only came here once just because of the distance but I wouldn’t mind coming back in the summer. They have alluring, breathtaking waterfalls here and koi in the ponds. Just a reminder, this place is for relaxing and being stress free. They do have a restaurant but I didn’t eat there. On their online menu, I noticed it’s not very Japanese oriented. Parking is sufficient, it doesn’t really get busy here.

Nicholas P — Google review

Enjoyed feeding the fish and birds, the gardens were breathtaking, and the buildings were so nice. There was a lot of musty smell to the buildings, but they were absolutely gorgeous. I loved the little hidden gems, too.

Amaya O — Google review

Totally worth the time to stop by here. The gardens are lush and well-tended and it makes for a nice outing with anyone, or all by yourself. The attached restaurant is quite nice and delicious though a bit pricy and there’s a gift store you can get some interesting things in.

Ben H — Google review

These gardens are absolutely gorgeous and so well maintained! I highly recommend visiting here as well as the nearby Laurent House (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright). This was my first visit, and I would love to come back in the spring to see everything in bloom.

R P — Google review

Perhaps the most extraordinary garden I have ever had the privilege of visiting. I cannot believe this is in Northern Illinois--I felt like I was back visiting Japan so many years ago. We visited in May of 2022 in what may have been one of the best seasons to visit. I've been itching to go back and see what else they accomplish in other seasons. One can get peacefully lost for hours in this place.

Kriz R — Google review

Anderson Japanese Garden is like stepping into a calming dreamland, even on busy days like Mother's Day. There are many beautiful sights and it was an easy walk to get through! My favorite part was the abundance of ginormous koi fish! It was so cool!! Prices for admission vary depending on your status (student, adult, kid, etc). It was a bit expensive, but it was worth it! 🌸🌺

Had a wonderful time at their Illuminated event. From the light display, to hot chocolate and woodfired pizza - it was a great way to kick off the holiday season! Love coming here!

Michael T — Google review

Great afternoon at a beautiful location in Rockford, I found Anderson Japanese Garden on YouTube and took my son because he likes Bonsai Trees… beautiful!!! Inexpensive delight.

AH — Google review

Beautiful park. It is smaller than maybe some other gardens but definitely worth checking-in and strolling around, especially now that the fall colors are so spectacular!

Visited from out of state after randomly being recommended at another cheese farm.No regrets!! We purchased two grilled cheeses that were the Best! Secret sauce on a Yellow Brick Road for the win!A must stop experience!

Amanda S — Google review

Decatur Dairy, hailed as the grilled-cheese capital of Wisconsin, beckoned us with whispers of gooey goodness that could only be experienced firsthand. Our journey traversed winding back roads and winding narrow highways, fueled by the promise of an iconic dairy experience. Nestled within, we found a haven boasting an impressive array of cheeses and a bustling staff churning out grilled cheese sandwiches in abundance.Behind the counter, a diminutive flattop held court, where culinary magic unfolded with each sizzle and melt. Curiosity piqued, I dared to challenge the capabilities of such a modest grill in crafting what could potentially be the epitome of a grilled cheese sandwich. As I placed my order, a tantalizing offer surfaced: the addition of their elusive "special sauce" or maybe it was a “special spread?” Intrigued, yet unacquainted with the concept of sauce or any type of spread adorning my grilled cheese, I inquired further, only to be met with a cryptic response – "it's special," leaving the mystery to linger.Undeterred, I surrendered to the allure of the unknown and opted for the embellished creation. The moment of truth arrived as the piping hot masterpiece graced my palate. With each bite, a symphony of flavors danced upon my taste buds, unveiling a revelation I had yet to encounter in all my years. The grilled cheese, elevated by the enigmatic "special sauce," transcended mere expectation, emerging as a culinary revelation.Though the contents of the elusive ingredient remained shrouded in secrecy, its transformative effect on the sandwich was undeniable. Whether it was the essence of this mysterious concoction or the artisanal craftsmanship that lent unparalleled perfection to the dish, one thing remained certain – the journey to Decatur Dairy was unequivocally justified. In retrospect, the pilgrimage to this dairy was not solely about indulging in grilled cheese, but rather embarking on a culinary odyssey that unearthed the essence of Wisconsin's cheesy prowess. For those willing to venture off the beaten path, Decatur Dairy awaits, a beacon of cheese-laden delight and the promise of extraordinary flavors yet to be discovered.I think it was mayonnaise!

Private S — Google review

Amazing cheese and curds as well as the absolute best grilled cheese I’ve ever had. Definitely must go! The blueberry cream soda was also delicious.

Amanda — Google review

Great cheese store and also have sandwiches. At least I had the triple grilled cheese. Cheese is made right on the premises. They cut it ( okay no jokes). They have their own special cheddar called stettler. Their yellow cheddar is either 6 months or 14 years. You heard right 14 YEARS! White cheddar 6 months. The prices are ridiculously low.

Nighthawk T — Google review

I picked up cheese on 07.28I ordered 11 lbs of a variety of cheeses. I requested 1/4 lb wrapped. Thry have done it before. They wrapped in 1/2 lb pieces. I had to RE wrap.I live in CA.I give this as gifts every year. My friends like the label. I now am giving rewrapped plain pieces of cheese.NOT happy in CA

Mb G — Google review

As out of state visitors we joined a busy and excited crowd waiting for our order. The menu included toasted cheese sandwiches with a variety of choices of delicious cheeses. The option we chose in included a bag of chips and a choice of drink and to finish it off, a dish or cone with ice cream. A great bargain and very tasty. We sat under a umbrella shaded picnic table and enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere while having our meal.

Dianne M — Google review

Excellent 3 cheese and green onion melted cheese sandwich reminded of good old melted cheese sandwiches.

Audrey B — Google review

Love their 3 Mouseketeer grilled cheese. All of them are good! Cheese curds n ice cream too! So good! Great selection of cheeses too.

Cindy C — Google review

We absolutely love their cheese. When I make my 5-6 cheese 2 meat lasagna, I get all my cheeses here except ricotta. That's the only cheese they don't have because it goes bad too fast. My husband has noticed the difference when I've made him lasagna these last 7 years and he says the cheese from this place makes the difference. You can't compare getting cheese straight from a dairy to a store when it comes to freshness and this place is nothing but freshness. It's a 35 min drive one way but it's worth it.

Anita B — Google review

Super busy on Saturday but worth the wait. Tons of unique cheese. Love the curds. Nice and squeaky. Well known for their grilled cheese sandwich!

John S — Google review

Come from Texas to get their aged cheddar. Decatur dairy cheese is by far the best. The people are super friendly and helpful. Had a huge order and got us taken care of just lickity split. (That's really fast in Texan 😀)

Danny L — Google review

It was very good. The cheese was excellent. We will definitely be going back.

Jon M — Google review

Wow, the grilled cheese sandwiches were excellent (pickleicious and smokey bandit with secret sauce of course), staff was friendly and helpful on the cheese selection. Prices were great so we ended up going back in to get some more after snacking with the sandwiches. So far the cheddar and Muenster curds, smoked gouda, and mushroom (and leek) Muenster are excellent and we've got a few more waiting still. Dogs were OK at the picnic tables out front.

Alex F — Google review

Excellent cheese, so much better than the other well-known dairy in the area that we had been visiting as a family for decades. This is our new go-to spot. What a great find. I just used them to send a gift box to my sister in North Carolina and it went smoothly, and she is enjoying it all immensely! Highly recommend!

Chris M — Google review

Heard about their famous grilled cheese sandwiches a few years ago. I live about an hour away but have been back several times. Great selection of cheeses available too. A must do if your in the area. Make sure to try the secret sauce.

Brad W — Google review

If you find yourself on a road trip seeking awesome cheese and scenery in southern Wisconsin, you won't find a better destination that Decatur Dairy. They have a full menu of amazing grilled cheese sandwich creations as well as yummy ice cream and plenty of outdoor seating. Their curds are beyond amazing and with so many varieties! Serious squeak appeal! I only wish they would offer a sample plate to be able to experience all of the curd goodness. Oh, did I mention they have an amazing selection of bulk cheese too, including several award winners? Go... there...now ❤️😋🧀

Steve F — Google review

We drive 40 minutes to get our cheese from here. They have the best dairy products around and if you go at the right time, their grilled cheeses are to die for! Added bonus, you support a local business when you buy from here. Their cheese curds are also a must buy!

Laura W — Google review

We had to ask to get waited on, but once we did the two who helped us were friendly. The grilled cheese sandwich with the special sauce was great. I had to ask for a sample, but he seemed more than happy to get me a couple.

The park is beautiful, but there needs to be a cleanup done here by caring volunteers. There was a lot of littered garbage from disrespectful visitors. Other than that its a 5 star park. I loved it, and so does the rest of my family. My daughter and I had an amazing time.

Joshua A — Google review

So pretty here. Unfortunately we went too early on a Sunday so not able to go into the buildings or gifts hope but the property is so relaxing and pretty to walk around.

Felicia M — Google review

A beautiful place to visit with incredible tours (when available). Worth the visit!!

Doug S — Google review

A wonderful museum that was the home of the Beckmans for 100 years and also a copperage - where whiskey barrels were made in the 1800’s The mill is also beautiful! A must visit ! Open Sat and Sun afternoons May to End Oct !

Jacqueline F — Google review

Great place for walks in nature year round. Have a nice new playground that my grandkids really loved.

David C — Google review

A beautifully moving and serene place. We heard sandhill cranes overhead, the mill pond was loaded with water flow. It was the perfect reset for the pandemic crisis. Visit. Stay a while.

Lynda W — Google review

Beckman Mill is a very scenic place. It’s a wonderful place to take pictures before high school dances. No matter what time of year you visit, Mother Nature always provides a beautiful background for a historic place.

Jennifer B — Google review

Beautiful and well maintained park with elevated paths over the wetlands. Amazing stop. Plus the hand pump for water is always a hit with kiddos.

Heather F — Google review

Highly recommend it is a beautiful park full of history. I visit it every year with my family because my grandpa grew up there. They have fun events such as ice cream socials and heritage day. It is the perfect spot for a wedding or photo shoot. There is a small trail there that is nice to walk on. The Beckman Mill is great for picnics, has a mill and museum (tours are available for both), a gift shop, fish ladder, and a dam. Great spot to go in all seasons. Highly recommend!

Edwards Apple Orchard

Sights & Landmarks

This place is wonderful. We always have a great time. There is food you can purchase to eat hot downstairs and food to take home upstairs. It's in this really nice remodeled barn. This is also non food products for purchase depending on the season. Its not open all year just on the end of summer till right after Thanksgiving. There are plenty of places for photo ops. There is an outdoor playground for the kids. Wagon rides though the orchard to. There is something for everyone. I highly recommend going there especially if you have never been. Hands down the best apple orchard around!

Erin L — Google review

Edwards Apple Orchard was amazing! I have heard about this place for a couple of years now and have wanted to go! Finally Saturday my husband and I did it not knowing how big of an operation it really is! I want to start by saying every employee that I had contact with was so very friendly and I appreciate that most of all! Lines were kind of long but the workers kept things moving and even a long line didn't take long to get to your destination. We started in the pumpkin patch and found two small pumpkins that I have in front of my home. Then we went on up to the barn and walked through just to see what all was available. Wow! Quite the compilation of apple butter, maple syrup, bacon jam as well as candies, apples and the amazing apple cider donuts! My husband is more of a frosting fruit filled donut guy but when I gave him one of the warm apple cider donuts he even said this doesn't need frosting or fruit filling! This is amazing! Did not disappoint! We had a barbecue sandwich, apple slices with caramel and cold apple cider to drink. It was so good! Thank you for making quite the family friendly place to go experience the country!

Susan M — Google review

Literally an institution. You gotta visit Edwards when they open in fall. Is not only super cute and fun, but they sell the most amazing candles and the most delicious apple pie with cheese and ice cream. I love Edwards Apple Orchard!

Francisco A — Google review

Wonderful day off from work spent at Edwards Apple Orchard with my DaughterWe have been coming here for years. The Kids just love it and they are all grown up now and still love it.They make one of my favorite Apple Pies on the Planet! It was beautiful there today, 61 degrees, Chill Fall Vibes and we got a dozen of their World Famous Apple Cider Donuts to bring home!

Biker K — Google review

A live band was playing. Amazing ciders and apples. They also distribute some outside market items. A great little playground and maze for the kids. The parking wasn't bad. They had traffic control and assistance. Their market (heck damn near grocery store) is very esthetically pleasing and fun to walk around. The crowd has definitely picked up since Covid regulations have dropped. It's nice to see people out enjoying themselves again.

Mat D — Google review

We go to Edward's every year during the late summer and early fall. We go a few different times during that time to do the U-pick apples. We like the Galas and golden delicious which come ready at different times. The U-pick and the apples in the apple barn are a bit pricey but they taste way better than anything you get at the grocery stores. The decore is Midwest country and very family oriented. The people are nice and helpful. The other things they sell are neat and very country-oriented as well but again pricey. If you go here be prepared to spend at least $50 to $150 but it is worth it.

Ian J — Google review

We live in another state, but every time we come back to Illinois to visit, I make sure it’s in the fall so we can come to Edwards. Our recent trip we had extra time so we went twice! The absolute BEST apple cider donuts I’ve ever had! Nothing compares to how incredible they are. The atmosphere and everything offered is endless! Take a ride to pick apples, take your kids to play at the playground, walk through the gift shop that’s filled with jelly, butters, salsas, clothes, and more! But it doesn’t end there. You can go visit and feed the goats, meet Mac the Highland cow, and even sit and enjoy food and fresh hot apple cider. Your kids of all ages will have the best time and so will you! A forever favorite that we make a priority to visit.

Erika G — Google review

It’s our family tradition to go apple picking every fall at this wonderful family friendly orchard. This year the rain however put a damper on all the outdoor fun & activities the orchard provides but we were still able to enjoy the delicious apple pie, apple donuts, and apple cider in the barn along with stocking up with our favorite jams and salsas for the year. See you early next fall 🍂🍎🎃

Mona — Google review

My wife and I visited here for the first time and had a lot of fun. We bought a lot of local goodies in the store, ate some apple pie and drank hot cider, enjoyed some fall colors, and pet done farm animals. Overall it was a great afternoon out.

Patrick R — Google review

I miss all the samples. We normally walk out having spent between 50 and $100. This time without the samples it was only $6.99 to cover a half dozen donuts. It's still a great place to go and we enjoy it. It is a part of our fall tradition. But I do miss all of the samples.

JimMyra W — Google review

A need to go place with lots of history. Edward’s was taken out by a tornado back in 2008, the newest built building contains remnants from the previous buildings. They offer fresh apple cider (hot or cold) and apple cider donuts all made from their very own apples! Located down in the basem*nt. In the upstairs is an old time styled general store offering more products made and created at Edward’s. You can also buy fresh apples and other vegetables grown by them. They offer a kids play area and a petting zoo to keep the littles entertained. All in all it is a place to see if and when you come to Illinois.

Adrianna L — Google review

Really enjoyable ambiance. Wonderful collection of musicians to listen to while waiting to get into their Cafe. Delicious apple pie and donuts.Good sized pumpkin patch. Great dry goods store. But the pick your own apples side is a bit over priced in that they only offer the basket at $45 per. Other orchards offer different size options.Nice play area for kiddos. All in all we had a wonderful afternoon visit and would recommend!

Bradley B — Google review

Great food, music, shopping, kiddie events. We have been going here for the past 20 years, it gets better every year. We now live in Tennessee, when we come to visit family in the Chicago in the fall, we always take the drive to this area to enjoy Edward's Apple Orchid. Back again 2023!

Melinda B — Google review

Had wonderful time with my husband. Bought their apple butter, apple cider jelly, and donuts. 10000% recommend!$45 apple picking seems a bit pricey.

Sara K — Google review

A Midwest classic - an annual must for anyone within a 50 mile radius. A great way to knock 2-3 hours out of your day with your family or your significant other. The apples you'll pick here are better than anything you'll buy at the grocery store.

Ryan B — Google review

Not only is this orchard BEAUTIFUL, but they have so much for kids to do and the best little store I’ve ever seen. I love coming on a random Tuesday morning when it’s not busy and just walking around with my daughter.

Carson Z — Google review

Edwards Apple Orchard is the reason I make a trip home to Illinois once a year. I literally plan my visit around opening day. From the moment you pull the door open you smell fall. There’s samples of some of their products as you make your way to the hot Apple Cider donuts that are to die for but wait! Don’t fill up eating those because because there’s the cafe below that has the best bbq pork sandwiches you’ll ever have along with hot & cold apple cider & apple pie with a thick slice of cheddar cheese and/or vanilla ice cream. The apple barn is filled with a variety of apple you can bring home or if you’d rather pick your own you can do that as well. There’s a lot for kids to do and live music usually on the weekends. Plan a good hour to 1 1/2 hr to take in the whole experience.

Great place for scout activities! Our cub scout pack spent the night in the museum. There was a very informative invention & technology demonstration, a scavenger hunt & a craft project. Donley's staff really takes care of everything for your group. We all thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

I took my 13 and 16 year old daughters, and told them that they were on the older side for this place. But we ended up having a great time, saw two kinda silly western shows, planned for fool's gold in their generous stream, ate ice cream sitting on a saddle, and enjoyed the surprisingly large museum. All the little kids there seemed to be having a good time, especially on the little roller coaster and pony ride. Can't wait to see what Ron does with the place.

John R — Google review

Super fun for all ages! Me and my girlfriend (ages 20/21) had a blast, although the place is mainly tailored for kids/pre-teens. Very atmospheric, every single employee was in character.

Brian N — Google review

Used this as a stopover on a long trip and was pleasantly surprised. Yes the Wild West show is cheesy (and with more singing than gunfights) but our 7 year old loved the place. Especially the mini rollercoaster and the gold panning. Found the (mostly young) attendants very attentive and friendly to kids; in comparison to the stroppy teens at most attractions.

WM S — Google review

We had a fun day exploring. It's mainly for kids under 10 but the historical piece was very nice for us adults.

Dijana ( — Google review

Paid 15 bucks online got a $3 discount brought food and drink and didn't spend another dime was totally worth it you can go on the rides many times as you want there's like four rides and for activities totally worth it.

Ammo C — Google review

Relive all that is kitchy with the wild west. From the moment you walk though the entrance, you are serenaded by Gene Autry and surrounded by memorbilia. There's a merry go round, train, pony rides, face painting, a miniature roller coaster, panning for gold, and a wild west show. Our grandchildren loved every moment.

Vicky T — Google review

Great time and day for the little ones. I think it is priced accordingly. Everything thing inside is free and you can go on the rides as many times if their is not a long line. Their is nothing like this in the area

Super fun! For anyone who loves history, this was a good time. It brought out the kid in my husband and I. The highlight was riding the train for sure, but it was also a treat to walk through different cars that were open and see what they looked like, or even just to walk down the rows in the barns and read the clearly written and I formative signs. Great place to visit with little kids; very affordable, lots to see and they often have trolley, diesel and even steam trains running that you can ride on(check their calendar).Unfortunately, it looks like it's seen better days but I believe with enough visitors they have the will and skill to bring it back.Sign up for a family pass - $80 for two adults and 2 kids. It's cheaper and you can come back as often as it's open.

It was an amazing experience for us. We got to see Santa Claus and take a train with all Xmas lights, hot chocolate and cookies are served. We were almost missing the train store/museum there have great train collection and memorabilia. Can miss it.

This is a great place for the whole family! I love visiting! Not only is this the biggest train museum in the states, it has so many activities. It's website is comprehensive, even with live webcams so you can watch what's going on. They are recreating a town center from the 50s and sell vintage memorabilia.

Visited here years ago and was thrilled with my visit then as I was this time. Last time I was there with my brother and he died back in 1995 so it was a long time ago. This time I had two friends with me and it was their first visit. It was a rainy day, but most of the exhibits are in huge sheds. Ten of them if I remember correctly. There are also many more outside. The rain let up as the day went on and we were able to visit all of the exhibits. Also thrilled being able to ride on the steam powered train as well as the street car. Really a marvelous day. There was also supposed to an associated car show, but few cars showed up probably because it was raining. There is a large building with operating model train displays and on and on. Wonderful place for a family outing.

Amazing collection of trolleys and street cars. The steam snowplow is tremendous. I'll be coming back many times!

The lines weren't crazy. We went around Halloween so they had a pumpkin patch you could get pumpkins from that was fun. Alot of history on the railroad. Pry won't return but the experience was worth it. It's not for everyone. Have fun!!

Oh my GOODNESS! I love trains so much and this place was so so so fun! SO MANY TRAINS! Steam and diesel and more! There’s really old stuff from super long ago and ITS SO GREAT! Gosh this is my favorite place in the world! Everyone was so nice and funny too. A definite 5 stars. I hope I can visit again!🚂 Oh, and I got to sit in the engineers seat of the Illinois Terminal caboose train, my dream!

Marbles S — Google review

Fantastic place to experience the history of train travel. They have so many old time train cars, an indoor train modern area that is interactive, working trains you can ride, and so much more. It's very reasonably priced and the staff here is so nice.

Daniel B — Google review

I've been to a lot of rail museums and this is unique for its collection of Midwest trains (of course). But they also have a few gems from other parts of the country which I appreciate because I live on the east coast--train cars from Boston, Philly, New Jersey... They have plenty of trains to ride too.

Peter K — Google review

I love this place. It has hundreds of trains all on display and a good amount of them operate. I was here for the 70th anniversary showcase which means the trains ran all night, and we got to see all the vintage neon signs lit up! They even had a newly restored interurban car out running for the first time since it was retired! Even with two full days of time to explore I wasn't able to see everything. I wanted, as there are 9 huge barns filled with all types of trains from an old horse-drawn trolley from the 1850's to a recently retired Amtrak electric locomotive. If you are in or going to the Midwest and like trains, you absolutely have to visit.

Daniel S — Google review

We have been here before, but has been a few years back. So impressed with the changes that have been done and what still going to be added. This time we had our brother with us and he enjoyed himself. Glad to see more storage buildings were added. We are all looking so forward to seeing the future of the Railway Museum. So full of history and great learning experience and good fun for the family.

Annual Day out with Thomas. We love Union Illinois Railway Museum. We visit several times a year. Such a great part of history. A day out with Thomas event and their holiday rides are great as well, admission is higher then. During the regular non event times you can ride in a steam engine usually

I have been coming here since I was 12 years old and I am 65 now! One of the best Railroad Museum in the USA.

Robert H — Google review

We went on a whim one Sunday afternoon. It was actually quite surprising how interesting and fun it was. At least for me. I’m not a train buff, but my husband and daughter can be, so we all went to check it out. Be prepared to walk. A lot. The buildings were pretty spaced out and, when the exhibits were open, long to walk through. They have a few trains that you can board that will take you for a ride, which is fun to experience. The old steam cars were very cool to look at. We all really enjoyed the model train exhibits too. My daughter wanted to go back to see them again before we left, but they closed an hour before the museum did. Regardless of that, we all had an enjoyable day and would definitely go back again.

Emily E — Google review

The largest railway museum in the country, with a vast collection of painstakingly restored trains, as well as a selection of historical buildings. It serves as a reminder of how much we've lost over the years, but also how far technology has come since the early days of railroading. This museum is entirely run by volunteers who have done a truly remarkable job at maintaining some of the most important pieces of railroad history.

Jack M — Google review

If you want to see and ride some trains, this is the place to go. Great for kids. All the staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and happy to chat at length with kids and adults. The model train exhibit is really fun.

Micah L — Google review

Came here for my birthday "museum crawl". It was $19 per person which shocked me but was worth it (in our opinion). We got dressed up all fancy like and made some great memories and took some great pictures. The trolley ride was about 15 minutes and the vintage train ride was about 45 minutes. We really enjoyed the self-tour train cars. A nice little hokey museum with authentic history.

A L — Google review

Went with family in mid-April. Purchased tickets online and arrived past 10:30am. Nobody was checking tickets at the gate, or anywhere else. Poor signage throughout, and no printed maps available as you enter. Employees seemed to be trickling in close to one hour after the opening time and the lights weren't turned on in many barns until after 11am which was borderline dangerous, especially for those with small children. The only train ride available was an electric train and the ride was fun. But disappointingly no steam trains were running. The streetcar ride was along a pitifully short loop. All in all, it was decent, if overpriced. Whole enterprise seems to be poorly managed and disorganized. Be careful if visiting with children as there is a potential to get hurt given lights not being turned on in barns on time.We have visited another railway museum in Illinois and had better time there.

Called on the way to the info. center. admission fees and locations were provided over the phone. Once we got there, fees doubled and we were informed that it wasn't one location, we had to pay for each building at a rate $30 vs. $5 per person. One of us stayed in the gift shop while the other used the bathroom and the staff was talking about us. We left and didn't take any tour. Not worth time, confusion, money or hassle.

Excellent historical site to see. The tour is great, the grounds beautiful and well maintained. So many great events held here. It's well worth a visit with the family.

Every tour over the years, I learned many details of our local history and the families that made up our heritage of this beautiful area of Rock County and Janesville. I have lived here my entire life and the history is alive and well with the staff and volunteers that enhance the Lincoln Tallman, and buildings that give a wealth of information to those thirsting for history.

This is a true gem to visit. Only an hour out of Milwaukee and *so* worth the drive. An immersion into nature and a contemplative haven. Beautifully designed and meticulously maintained garden vignettes, meandering paths, ponds, bridges, waterfalls and plenty of seating along the way—thanks to colorful Adirondack chairs thoughtfully place at the waters edge and benches throughout the gardens inscribed with inspirational quotes. I am looking forward to going back. Soon.

We love Rotary Garden! We love going there in warm weather but the best thing to see is the light display!! Every year they add more lights; they’re over one million lights! It can get really busy for the lights on weekends, especially when it gets closer to Christmas. We like to go early in December, right when they open at 4:30. We hang out near the entrance until it gets darker and then we enjoy the lights! They don’t allow anyone in the building right now because of covid, and there aren’t any tickets available for purchase on site. There are port-a-potties at the entrance and halfway through the route. There are limited concessions available for purchase on some nights. The route through the garden is one-way and directs you through all the decorated gardens and displays. There are several spots set up for family photos. It’s a fantastic spot to visit!

Kristen B — Google review

First time visiting the Janesville Rotary Gardens (7.21.2023). It was just beautiful. Everything is laid out nicely and plenty of benches to relax and take in the gardens at your leisure! Staff is very friendly and greet you with a smile. Happy to answer questions or share their knowledge of the gardens. The gift shop had so many unique items, couldn't walk out without buying something. We brought our own lunch to enjoy on the terrace overlooking a fountain and the children's garden. Nice morning spent, will definitely go back again.

AmyLS — Google review

Our family all came here to see the Christmas lights. All the lights were amazing and beautiful. We all enjoyed ourselves. Our grandson said he's never seen so many lights. This is a must see.

Jane K — Google review

This place is absolutely magical! It is so astounding during the regular season to walk through, but Christmas time is magical. You might have to wait in line to get in and buy tickets ahead of time online, and may have to drive a little bit to get there. It is worth it, they do a fantastic job with the lights.

Dorene R — Google review

What a pleasant surprise. Visiting the gardens is worth the trip. I took tons of pictures as every view was stunning. I was needing to fill sometime while others I was vacationing with did a strenuous hike. I think I got the long end of the stick.... gift shop was basic but prices reasonable and I purchased 2 items.

Bonnie B — Google review

Visitng this late in the season comes with its own challenges of things being in bloom or not. But these gardens were very relaxing to stroll through even when things weren't in bloom. Look out for the hidden gems and take a break from the hassle and bustle of everyday life. Bonus: Chicago Botanical Garden Holders can use their annual passes to gain free entry to the gardens, so make sure to check out the gift shop before you leave!

Kelsey P — Google review

As part of The Come Back Chorus, we got to sing there at a Christmas Party! It was a very nice event with catered food from The Italian House. The Gardens are beautifully lit with colored lights.I've walked the gardens during the day and it's such a peaceful, meditative experience. Flowers, trees and plants. . .with many inspirational benches to rest on and ponder.

Steeny G — Google review

We went for the light show! It was absolutely beautiful! So thankful we got to go back in December. I truly look forward to seeing the gardens this summer as well!

Susan M — Google review

Beautiful place to take a stroll! Dahlias were in full bloom when we went. Awesome little gem in Janesville! If you go in to the visitor center, by the bathrooms, there's a really cool group of historical pictures showing the transformation of the site. I really think that this historical stuff should be less hidden. It truly shows you how much difference gardens can improve the ordinary.

Don D — Google review

Rotary Botanical Gardens is stunning. The staff last Saturday was friendly and helpful. They joyfully took the time to teach us about the flowers we had questions about. 🩷 There's lots of love in those gardens, and it feels amazing to slowly walk through and enjoy all of the sights and smells. May is a beautiful time of year to waltz through. 🩷

Hidden gem of Janesville! The grounds are immaculate and well-cared-for the staff is amazing the gift shop is unmatched! I can't say enough about How wonderful this place is! The children's garden chooses a children's book every year and tells the story in flowers and Dioramas! Mind-blowingly cool. Just lovely! Definitely headed back for their Christmas light show that starts in November

When I think of my favorite places to visit, this is one of them! Not a huge place, but every corner contains beauty of nature! Very quiet and peaceful setting with nice walking paths, many benches to sit and relax, photographer's dream! Made up of several themed areas into one large setting containing art of statues, ponds, flowers, trees and ferns, koi pond and lots of birds and small creatures. Easy parking, gift shop and fair admission prices. Great place for weddings and receptions. Highly recommend!

We traveled 3.5 hours to attend the light show this year, and it was amazing. Parking is nuts. We had quite a walk, and the line was long but definitely worth it. We will be going back next year.

April H — Google review

I can't recommend this place enough, their holiday lights are absolutely beautiful. It's not too expensive, bring your family, go more than once. most beautiful place.

Tracy J — Google review

I like to go once a year to see the Christmas lights. I love the prices and the displays. The walk through is very nice.

Chuggle B — Google review

This was our first year to look at the lights for the botanical garden light show. We enjoyed the different sections that were set up to take pictures. Small concession stands and a beautiful gazebo. As long as your children can stand the weather it is worth the walk. Some places did seem a little rushed just because the amount of people on certain trails. Almost turned into herding cattle. The parking lot was unbelievably full and parking was not well lit and we ended up parking on a busy road with little children. I really want to go back in the summer to see all of the beautiful landscaping and foliage.

The Henry Vilas Zoo is a great place to visit with kids if you're in Madison, Wisconsin. It has animals from all over the world, plus a variety of gifts and food options for visitors.

What A Amazing Free Zoo, That’s Correct It’s 2022 And There Is Still Something That’s Fun To Do And Free🤘You Can Do The Right Thing And Donate Anything You Can Afford To Give - They Still Enjoy Giving Extra Care To Their Animals!! So Many Different Animals In Such A Beautiful Layout!! Keep Up The Great Carr And The Great Work Of Running Such A Beautiful Zoo!! I Went Multiple Times As A Kid And Now I’ve Taken My Kids To This Zoo!! Great Place To Spend The Day Or Days!! There Is A Lake Near By You Can Enjoy As Well!! Give Those Donations To Them Please And Thank You, This Is What Keeps Them Going!!

I love this little zoo!! It's on the smaller side, but there are plenty of animals to visit. The updates and expansions they've done over the past few years to the enclosures have been great to see. It's a free zoo, but always still plan to bring a donation, because of course taking care of all these beautiful creatures is not free!

melody — Google review

We visited in May before the season started. The zoo wasn't very crowded. Some of the animals were not visible, but it was a nice day for a walk anyway. Depending on the time of year, time of day, feeding schedule, and sleeping times, it's not always possible to see all the animals in most zoos. The Henry Vilas Zoo could perhaps be considered a mid-size zoo, and that is an advantage, making the zoo easy to navigate, and not exhausting to explore. There seem to be plenty of friendly staff assisting visitors and caring for the animals. Visiting the zoo is free, but donations are welcome.

Greg J — Google review

I recently visited the zoo in my city and was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was no entry fee. As I walked through the gates, I was impressed by how clean and well-maintained the grounds were. The pathways were clear of any debris and the animal enclosures were spacious and clean.I was able to see a wide variety of animals, from lions and tigers to lemurs and birds. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed the educational programs that the zoo offered, such as feeding times and animal talks. It was great to learn more about the different species and their habitats, and I left the zoo feeling more connected to the natural world.Overall, my family had a fantastic experience at this zoo and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and educational day out. The fact that there was no entry fee was just the cherry on top of an already wonderful visit. I will definitely be returning in the future.Just one area of note, on weekends parking is very limited, so make sure to plan for a two or three block walk.

Ben R — Google review

We love coming to this zoo. It's the perfect size for little kids to be able to walk and not get too worn out. It's nice in the winter too, if you bundle up and it's not too cold you can still have a great experience. The lions are often active and roaring. The polar bear is very active and likes to swim. There is a family of 5 otters to see too. We miss being able to go into the monkey and reptile area that has been closed to the public since COVID started. In the summer time the playground is open and is a great place to run around and play.

J H — Google review

I was glad to see that they have more animals now, there's more places to eat/snack inside the zoo. Last time we were here(6 yrs) they were doing some construction and they didn't have a lot of animals. We all had a great time. My personal favorite was the tiger. There is no fee to enter the zoo, they just ask for a donation. The parking lot is small so I would recommend going early. You can also park on the street around the park.

Maria F — Google review

Henry Villas Zoo is definitely one of the best zoos in Wisconsin. First of all, it's FREE. Yes, you read that correctly. There's no cover charge. The exhibits are well laid out and there are some pretty unique and amazing creatures here. Our favorites are the orangutan family (and a baby orangutan, she's so adorable!!), Tiger, lions, rhinoceros, giraffe, polar bear, otters, anaconda, and MORE! The park isn't excessively large & is well laid out. There's an amazing kids plaza area (seriously, it's incredible). The store is a must see and definitely purchase some stuff to help them keep up the park and superb animal care.

Lex L — Google review

We always have an absolutely great time at this zoo. There us a wide array of animals, as well as a few buildings with other animals. Wonderful playground and children's zoo. There were lots of baby animals when we went today. Also Joe near the exit at guest services was THE NICEST person ever. My kids loved interacting with him and getting a stamp

Taylor H — Google review

Really nice zoo. We went on a weekday and it wasn't too crowded. If recommend going early in order to find parking. The animals seemed well cared for and appeared to have appropriate enrichment and good conditions, as well as places to escape the crowds. I would definitely visit again and enjoyed this zoo significantly more than many of the highly recommended commercialized zoos in the country. The zoo staff were friendly and knowledgeable as well.

Liz T — Google review

Best free zoo I've ever been to! Enclosures were well maintained and all animals seemed in good health. We had a lot of fun here!

Becky K — Google review

Nice place to visit during weekend. Lots of animals. Kids will enjoy for sure. There is no entry fee. But you can donate at the entrance for your visit. Rhino, giraffe, tiger and lion were very active during our visit.

Kabil J — Google review

If you want to have a nice little walk around a beautiful park with the family and see some animals while doing so this is a great place to go. It's small but quaint with a nice variety of animals and plenty of fun things for your little ones to do. Entrance is free which is another plus. Only issue was parking which is why I gave it a 4 star rating.

Cynthia M — Google review

This Zoo has a surprisingly good selection of animals and exhibits for a free to public zoo. The weather was a little cool that day, but it seemed to have been favorable to most of the animals, too. I wanted to give it 5 stars because for a free zoo (they do take donations), they do a good job overall with the animals and exhibits. The only thing that seemed it could be better was some basic maintenance here and there, especially with cleaning up the glass on some of the exotic animal exhibits. This is a great little getaway for half a day or so with the family or just anyone who appreciates the animals and nature. I'd love to see what they could do with this place should the city pump some money into the zoo. You'd think with all those taxes in the Madison area, they could put some of it to use for the public by investing in public spaces like the zoo. Overall, I definitely recommend this place, and they have some land and picnic tables out by the parking lots as well, so pack a lunch or snacks it's a great little half day or so getaway.

Austin W — Google review

This zoo is just the right size for a day trip. Very manageable to navigate and see a wide variety of animals. The only place it gets crowded is inside the reptiles exhibit. The primates building is probably the highlight especially if you are able to catch the monkeys playing.I would recommend coming through the back entrance that is on Vilas Park Drive. Much more available parking back there.

Sydni F — Google review

large variety of animals, well-kept and clean grounds, free entry, variety of food spots (including a chocolate shoppe ice cream). I have such great memories of coming here when I was a little toddler and it’s nice to see that the quality of this zoo has stayed consistent. I love how close you can see all of the animals, especially the giraffe. We ate at mickies dairy bar then spent the afternoon here. What a great day!

Mira — Google review

Very nice layout and decent amount of animals that we saw for the zoo's size. Wished the avian flu outbreak wasn't around which quarantined all their birds but we did get a glimpse of the Flamingos.Recommend for all ages.

Walter F — Google review

Our family has gone here for years. Very clean and so much to do and see. I love the fact that it’s free (we usually like to donate anyways) worth coming and checking it out. It’s one of our favorite Madison spots

DeeAnna S — Google review

It is amazing how the zoo has changed over the years. No more giraffes, camels, penguins. But they still have a lot of other critters to see. A bottle of water was $5.26. Yikes. Kids still love the zoo but I suggest a nice picnic before going in.

Barry D — Google review

It’s the perfect size zoo. I wish there were more animals but what we did see looked to be enjoying themselves. Grizzlies foraging for bugs. The polar bear was swimming and then rolling in mud. The tiger was taking a nap in the sun. The lions were roaming. The river otter was swimming. I didn’t like seeing that the orangutan was all by itself though. I think some of these animals need company. The carousel is lovely. The gift shop is extremely expensive now but, inflation. All in all this is a nice zoo and it’s free. Parking is free as well. We had fun.

A — Google review

Always good animals here. Less to see in winter but so happy it's a free zoo. Sad that Eddie the giraffe got moved elsewhere. Highly recommend!

Belle B — Google review

My family and I travel quite a bit and have been to many zoo's, with that being said I didn't have high expectations for this zoo - especially since it's free. I was seriously so impressed, it is one of the cleanest zoos I have been to! It's not huge, but it's a perfect size for my kiddos to manage without being exhausted. There's a good variety of animals and all enclosures are well maintained and clean. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend it!

M W — Google review

I am impressed that this zoo is free. They have cool animals. Both adults going on a date or for kids with family, this is a must visit!

Apple H — Google review

Having traveled all over the USA, coming back to Madison has showed me how great this zoo really is. Not only is it free, but it is clean, friendly, and fun for the family. The animals all look happy, healthy, and taken care of with clean enclosures. For a free zoo… this zoo is a must see when you come to Madison!

Jake P — Google review

Great place to take our animal loving children on vacation! A 4 yr old and a 6 yr old found a lot of things to be joyful about even in the cold of March and the rainy/snowy weather! Great playground, cool art/sculptures, and great animal views!

Stoughton Opera House

Opera house

Concerts & Shows

Elegant, intimate Victorian venue for community theater, touring bands & classical music concerts

Saw Michael Perry and the Long Beds and it was an amazing experience. Their music was mesmerizing and the stories hit so close to home. The theater is beautiful and the accommodations were perfect! Our family will be making it a habit to attend more events there.

Jeremy F — Google review

A lovely venue. We saw the Arcadian Wild band and I must say that they rocked the house! The bonus was when they performed two songs off mike as their finale.

James W — Google review

Amazing concert performance by Eilen Jewell and her band. Also a beautiful theater and extremely well preserved building, formerly city hall. The only reason for 4 stars is that the seats in the theater are wooden and extremely uncomfortable. A heads up would have been nice, "bring a stadium seat cushion" or something to that effect. Good news is a renovation to install seat cushions will commence this summer!I will update to 5 stars after it is done.

Dylan ( — Google review

The Opera House is a gorgeous venue, very well restored and maintained, and offers comfortable seating for small stage presentations. The multi tiered seating is authentically early 20th century offering floor, mezzanine, and balcony points of view. Seating has been recently padded in a way to secure comfort without compromising the look and feel of the old theater. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. I would not hesitate to buy tickets for this venue if the act was of interest to me

Dennis H — Google review

This is a fantastically intimate venue, with some of the best entertainers in the business. My family and I just saw Chris Paterson and JD McPherson's Christmas show, and it was amazing. Check out the roster and go out and support the Stoughton Opera House. You will not be disappointed!

Josh J — Google review

Great show and I appreciated the great acoustics. Worth the trip from suburban Chicago. The seats themselves were "authentic" which meant mostly wood and not as comfortable as modern seats. Part way through the show I took off my sweater and sat on it. You may want to bring your own seat cushion! If you are thinking dinner in town first, several (all?) neighboring restaurants in this small town fill up fast the night of the show so advance dinner reservations are recommended.

Russ S — Google review

Pristine sound and great customer service there. Absolutely wonderful time at the Jeff Tweedy show. Loved it.

Bryon S — Google review

We had a chance to see Jorma Kaukonen at this wonderful venue. Beautiful location and plenty of restaurants and bars nearby for before and after the show.

Todd ( — Google review

I really enjoyed the Norwegian singing group they saying some Norwegian songs and they saying some religious songs from The Book of Psalms Psalm 71 they sing and it was just beautiful it's a group of all men and if this is an inkling of the performances that they do at the Stoughton Opera House I would be more than delighted to attend other events in the near future.

Sandra T — Google review

A beautiful venue with great acoustics. I'm so glad the seats are now upholstered. The lounge area was really crowded before the show. The guys bathroom moved along at a good pace at intermission but the gals line was really long.

Pat L — Google review

Wonderfully restored old building provides just the right venue for a wide variety of music and entertainment. Previously legendarily uncomfortable seats now have been nicely improved with luxurious padded seat cushions. If you have seats in the balcony section, be prepared for several flights of steep stairs. However, the view of the stage from there is perfect.

Tom B — Google review

What a great place for a show! Historical, intimate and cozy. Seems like there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Only reason for losing a star was the pole directly in front of my seat. I don't recall any mention of obstructed view. Seats were cushioned and lounge had nice variety. Be prepared for stairs! Beautiful stage and venue.

jselken1978 — Google review

Oh, and the seats now have cushions! The Stoughton Opera House is a pleasant surprise, full of charm, extraordinaire architecture, and intimate alcoves. The staff are amazing, with their knowledge and passion for all that this place is. Be sure to come early for an event, and partake of the fresh baked goods, the bar, and videos of past performances. I think their Spring 2022 flyer (1st pic) is a work of art...so powerful.

Green S — Google review

Amazing theater space. Beautiful throughout. The balcony section has amazing views of the stage. Note: lots of stairs and a famously slow elevator.

Nathan P — Google review

Beautiful and quaint. No beverages sllowed in the theater area so cottonmouth central.

The Memorial Union at the University of Wisconsin Madison is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The Terrace offers stunning views and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a happy hour with friends. With reasonable prices on excellent Wisconsin beers, including local options, it's a great place to unwind and take in the beautiful sunset. The food options are reminiscent of stadium fare, adding to the laid-back vibe.

The Union is part of my morning exercise routine, when I can walk outdoors. Always a welcoming place with a great view.

Italian restaurant

Come to 107 State for a cozy atmosphere and Wisconsin made dishes. They have a great selection of pasta dishes, craft co*cktails and Italian influences. The Syndicate is the perfect place to raise a glass with friends, or enjoy some delicious Italian food.

We had one issue with our food that was remedied immediately - super service and awesome food- been there twice and will continue to go

JAIME A — Google review

I like this downtown restaurant. On State St, about a block from the Capitol Square. I loved the dark atmosphere. Cool jazz music playing. Besides not being very loud in there, the booths help make it easy to have a conversation. The rough brick wall also helps to break up any noise. Our server was very friendly and the timing of her check-ins was good.First off, I liked the bread. Besides being complementary, each piece was crunchy on one side and warm & buttery on the other. The roasted mushroom crostini was a great way to start the meals. It was crunchy chewy, with the expected sweetness from the cheese and glaze. My salmon crunchy outside and soft moist inside. The garlic lemon sauce was a great added flavor. The shrimp scampi also tasted great, although a bit too heavy on the garlic. The Bliss Burger was a tasty burger dripping with juicy goodness. The accompanying fries tasted just McDonald's fries, but a little less salty. The meat in the Ziti with Ragu was a nice combo of hearty meat with soft tender tasty ziti. The waitress passed by with plates of desserts that looked real good, but we were just too full. ....Next time.Overall, I really liked this upscale city tavern.

Anthony V — Google review

Good spot if you're too drunk to care what you eat and your favorite co*cktail ingredient is simple syrup. We kept it simple and ordered burgers. His came under cooked and mine came without the $3.50 bacon addition and any toppings whatsoever. Once the bacon came, it was two inches long seared on one side and completely raw on the other. The manager seemed intoxicated, but was nice enough. He offered to comp the burger, which is why I offered three stars. My friends all had similar stories, so I felt the need to write a review.

Lea Z — Google review

Stopped in after a show at the Overture Center on a Friday night. We got there just after the kitchen was closed so can't speak to the food. The drinks we ordered were both mediocre for the price. One was flavorless the other was basically just dominated by the shake of spice put on top. We sat at the bar where you'd expect good service in a fairly empty restaurant, but instead I would describe it as subpar. I sat with an empty drink for more than enough time that I might have ordered a second drink that might have redeemed the place, but instead gave up and just got the check. With a location so close to the square and Overture Center this place really seems to miss the opportunity as a late night stop. Definitely better options close by.

Efrem L — Google review

While visiting from out of town, I decided to take my wife here for her birthday. Man! This was some of the most delicious, tastiest, visually pleasant food I've had in Madison. The salmon alone is now in my top 3 all-time. The lamb chops were grilled tender to perfection. But the highlight of the night was the mushroom crostini appetizer. We have never tasted a mushroom dish with such unbelievable blends of flavor at any restaurant in life! Take a look at my photos, and you be the judge.

Al H — Google review

We went to 107 State for dinner before Overture event(5:30p.m.). Staff was great. Appetizer was good. Burgers were awful. My cheeseburger was ordered medium rare-it was a well done hockey puck . Both burgers were. This was burger week!!! I was offered a remake. I said no as we did have an event to attend. We were given $ off. Thank you. Please clean and deodorize your bathrooms. There seems to be some sort of sewage issue.

Doreen J — Google review

I like the troll vibe of the restaurant. I ordered the grandpa root beer, salt and pepper chicken wings and the sirloin “frites” the wings are good and my steak could have been a little more cook but it was good too and the service was good.

Shalonda M — Google review

Went in here once on a whim. While looking at the menu outside, someone walking in said "it's great, try it." So we did, and now have gone 3 times and will continue to do so. Excellent food, tasty co*cktails, and friendly service!

Matt U — Google review

Don't make a mistake, make a reservation instead. We're so glad we did with the event at the overture we were not aware of. Our experience was amazing.co*cktails:-Espresso Martini - perfect compliment of bitter coffee and sweet-Glass of recommended Red - wife enjoyed 2 glasses-House Signature Manhattan - always a fan of big rock + presentationAppetizer:-Roasted Mushroom Crostini - loved every bite-Caesar Salad - healthy portion with hint of anchovyMain:-Fettuccini ala Scampi: I scouted this item out ahead of time, and was the perfect marriage of lemon, garlic, and butter. Shrimp cooked perfectly.-Mushroom Ragu: This was another recommendation from our server, Jen. A combination of shiitake, baby bella, and oyster. My wife loves mushrooms so this was an absolute hit.-Grilled Lamb Chops: We were craving pasta but could not pass up this dish. Super tender bone-in lamb complimented with Green Beans with a garlic butter finish. You cannot go wrong!Overall, we finished our co*cktails at the bar and held a friendly conversation with the staff before we took off. Everything was great, loved the intimate setting. Compliments to Nate, Jen, Kitchen + Bar Staff!

Tim S — Google review

A nice place with good co*cktails and very good food. The service could have been a bit better but wasn't bad.Would go again and recommend for sure.

Anisha P — Google review

I LOVE this place! The last restaurant iterations in this space have been truly lacking, so I was very dubious about the new joint. However, my fears were QUICKLY assuaged. This place ROCKS! The burgers and steak are delicious. (I haven't had the pasta, but it looks great too!). And don't miss the cheesecake! It took me several visits to give in, and I was mad at myself for not eating it before! The staff are all really great and friendly and make this place feel very, very welcoming!Update: I have ordered several pastas, and they are as delicious as I hoped. Every one! Recommend everything from this place!

Angela J — Google review

If i could give more stars, I would. I arrived in a wheelchair. My friend was having trouble pushing me through the door. One of the employees rushed to the door to help me. With her help, the door was easy. They seated us immediately. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, mushroom crustini. The toast had crunch, the topping was creamy, and the mushrooms were plentiful. We ordered dinner; Steak Frites and Shrimp Scampi. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the fries were amazing! Everything was seasoned to perfection; spice but not overpowering. Delicious! I'll be back soon!

Danielle T — Google review

It would only take a blink to miss 107 State, but recommend keeping your eyes open to try this cozy little spot on State Street. Reservations are highly recommended if you want a table (we ended up sitting at the bar).My wife had tonight's special, Fusilli Brisket (on the regular menu with lamb) which was a delicious and tender combination. I had The Old Fashioned burger which was cooked to perfection and also delicious! I also added the bacon to mine, which calling it bacon is such and statement, it is really a burger sized slab of pork belly (which was amazing! )The staff was friendly and attentive, and overall a welcoming little spot almost hidden on State.

Tim M — Google review

Discovered this place just walking down the street looking for a place to eat. Signage is horrible but everything else is A++. Great food, cozy atmosphere and fantastic service! Will definitely be going back.

Greg M — Google review

Service was terrible, and it took our server ages between visits to our table. Appetizers were brought out concurrently with entrees—just what everyone wants, to let their food get cold while eating their salad. Spaghetti was mediocre, with way too much cheese, but others at our table did enjoy their entrees, so I’ll bump the food bit of the rating a smidge. The wings were quite good though, even if the sauce left something to be desired. The night ended with a large bill that the server awkwardly danced around trying to figure out who to give it to, which is definitely on us for not asking for separate checks upfront, but as it becomes more the norm to ask how to handle the check in a larger, varied group, it just was a tad disappointing—and this, like everything else, took the server way too long both to bring and take payment. And then there’s the credit card surcharge. I get it, the fees are high from the card processors. But it’s part of doing business. In a world that is increasingly more “touchless”, expecting normal people to just have $300+ in cash is a bit unrealistic, and it’s not safe to let one’s debit card leave their sight. Everything should always be purchased on credit.

The Wisconsin State Capitol is an imposing and elegant Beaux-Arts building that dominates the central skyline of Madison. Completed in 1917, its marble and mahogany-clad interior is full of magnificent murals and mosaics. The dome atop the building is bested by Daniel Chester Frenchs exquisite overlaid bronze statue, Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin State Capitol is simply a stunning building. Everyone that is able should take a half hour to walk through this incredible structure. Photos don't do the majesty justice, and you really need to see it for yourself. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area or passing nearby.

Nick C — Google review

Lovely on the inside. The tour guide was helpful and we learned a lot about the Capitol. I highly recommend going inside. Beautiful structure and pictures. My daughter and i got to rub the lucky bagers nose.

Melissa R — Google review

Absolutely amazing!! The building is gorgeous & captivating outside and even more on the inside!I loved how the building is open and free to come in and see. They offer free tours and you can roam around and enjoy it.The capital building was made by the people, for the people and you can really see that! Because it’s so open and you can just go anywhere to appreciate the beauty. The building was finished in 1916 and has stone from 7 countries and 8 US states. It was thoroughly beautiful and impressive!

Sammy R — Google review

This building is so beautiful. They offer free guided tours and I definitely recommend going on one. Our guide was able to take us to places we didn't know about, told us all kinds of interesting facts, and was really friendly. I had no idea we could go up to the observation tower, or that there was a small museum up there! So much fun for free!

Ziva G — Google review

This is an absolutely gorgeous building, I haven't had a single moment I walked into the Capitol Building and it hasn't felt like the first time. The details are all absolutely perfect and if you're able to pet the nose of the Badger outside the Governor's office, please do! They also offer FREE tours during the weekdays along with being able to go up to the observation deck!

Cassandra ( — Google review

We enjoyed the guided tour! I highly recommend it. You can see many of the legislative rooms and learn about the rotunda, the stone work, mosaics and paintings. I also learned that every state has a Liberty bell. Wisconsin has theirs prominently displayed and we enjoyed finding the many badgers too. What a beautiful building! I would love to come back and go to the 6th floor observation deck.

Beth H — Google review

This place is as gorgeous and interesting to explore as it is important to our state. Marble from floor to ceiling, some imported and not without stories! Take the guided tour and they'll tell you all about it! The capital is extremely impressive, every detail is meticulous. It is a state treasure! Coming in at $7.2 million dollars back in the early 1900s. This is a must see if you are visiting Madison, WI.

Sarah D — Google review

I love that you can come in and look around for free. I highly recommend going to the top and taking a look outside. There are stairs leading to the very top after you take an elevator to the 4th floor. Public restrooms available inside as well. During the holiday season they have a beautiful tree lit up with children’s ornaments. It’s beautiful. Definitely worth checking out!

It was a privilege.

Today, we had a tour of the Capitol Building in Madison, Wisconsin. The tour was awesome, and the tour guide was awesome! It was very interesting, and I learned so much. Street parking was available, and the tour group was small. I highly recommend a visit to this place.

Mary E — Google review

The architecture of this state capitol building is nothing short of impressive! The design of both the exterior and interior was stunning, and the view from the observation deck is excellent! The best place inside the capitol building to stand and take pictures is at the very center right underneath the dome. This is a must see when you’re visiting Madison!

N D — Google review

Free and open to the public. During December there is a big Christmas tree with ornaments from school children throughout the state that is fun to see! The architecture is fantastic.

Isaac T — Google review

We had a lovely afternoon visiting the Capitol building for one of the free tours! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we saw a ton of badgers along the way! The building is magnificent, especially with the Christmas tree and holiday decorations up! The holiday choir was performing as an added plus. Don’t miss the observation deck under the rotunda for even cooler views!

Pallavi A — Google review

What a unique place! I discovered quite a bit of United States history here. And the paintings are beautifully painted. Lots of architecture to take a look at. And plenty of bathrooms on every floor. If you're looking for a place to sit down, there are leather chairs outside the supreme court courtroom on the second floor, in addition to benches outside the Capitol itself

Golden F — Google review

The Madison State Capitol building is a breathtaking architectural masterpiece that stands proudly at the heart of Wisconsin. Its stunning dome, adorned with a majestic golden statue, dominates the skyline, offering a glimpse of its grandeur from afar. As you step inside, the splendor continues with intricate murals, grand marble staircases, and the richly decorated chambers that exude a sense of history and importance.

Amaresh C — Google review

Insanely beautiful building, gorgeous stone throughout. My family decided to go on the free tour. Our tour guide was absolutely wonderful. My husband uses a wheelchair frequently when going out, and this gentlemen let us know where to go to meet and always made sure we were at the right elevator to rejoin the group. He was very very knowledgeable and informative. The observation deck was outstanding as well, definitely recommended going up there

Taylor H — Google review

The architecture is beautiful with breathtaking interior design. It is also open to public for free.

Ayaz N — Google review

Several times I've wanted to stop here but just didn't have a lot of time. Finally had a chance to take a stroll around the perimeter. It's an interesting capitol building where you're not quite sure where the front is (maybe there is none). There was some renovation going on but nothing too bad. We were able to find street pay parking immediately but one with a very short time limit.

Patrick V — Google review

The state capital building is phenomenal.I enjoyed the magnificent views with an amazing architecture. The ceiling, interior design with huge pillars and with vintage ceiling equipment can't make our eyes even to give a blink

Nature & Parks

The Olbrich Botanical Gardens is located on Madison's scenic waterfront and features a wide variety of themed gardens with plants from all over the world. Highlights include the glass-enclosed Bolz Conservatory and an elaborate Thai pavilion called a sala which is the only one of its kind in the continental United States.

Beautiful Gardens and their Conservatory is also really nice! Loved seeing tropical plants, water ponds and quails! The Gardens are free which is very nice, they do accept donations. The Conservatory is not free, but the ticket entrance is not expensive at all. Parking is also free which is nice. Will definitely be back once everything has bloomed.

Jen R — Google review

This is a great botanical garden - my family has had a membership for years. We love walking around the outside areas when it's warm, and the indoor conservatory it's great in the winter.Additionally, there are a few times a year when we always stop by:- in the spring/summer they have a butterfly event where they raise butterflies and release them into the conservatory. You can walk around the area full of butterflies, if you're lucky one may land on you!- in December they have their holiday express event, where they put together displays and incorporate model trains from enthusiasts in the area. It's always a ton of fun, and they generally have a search and find page for the kids. This year's holiday express was carnival themed, which was a ton of fun.

I visited solo in July 2022 and had a wonderful time! There is a great diversity in flora, photo ops, views, and structures. There is lots to learn and appreciate, like the indigenous garden and the Royal Thai Pavilion. There is a gift shop attached as well!

This botanical gardens is the best!! On Saturday mornings from 10am-12pm the garden is FREE! When you enter the dome, be prepared for your jaw to drop! It is amazing! Tropical trees yielding fruit, birds flying around, quail running around, flowers I've never seen before, koi fish pond, a waterfall and so very much more! We were there in winter, but we're told that in May-ish the outdoor garden walk is stunning! This place will not disappoint!! Definitely a must experience when visiting Madison!

Sarah D — Google review

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. These gardens are BEAUTIFUL! Very nice environment outside to walk around, plenty of plants to see as well as wildlife. There are some areas that may be inaccessible for visitors in wheelchairs, but the paths in general are very well kept! Stopping by the Thai gardens is a MUST - stunning architecture and design. Gift shop has fun items as well!

Victoria S — Google review

Great place to visit on a pleasant day. The outdoor gardens are free and great for a slow stroll through when the weather is nice. The indoor conservatory is worth the $6 as there are unique and rare plants to observe. You can spend as much or as little time here as you please.

Ryan K — Google review

The Thai garden was definitely our favorite part. The black ponds are really cool. Could visualize many spots for wedding of family pictures. The main building has bathrooms, gift shop, water, and vending. The staff is friendly and helpful. Unbelievable this place is no charge , except for the dome, but please donate to keep this good thing going

Jered K — Google review

Please do not bring your emotional support animal here. Could not believe that a woman was allowed to bring her dog inside of the gardens. Where do you think your pet is going to relieve itself! That being said, these gardens are a beautiful place to visit year-round. Kids welcome, pets, not.

Rock C — Google review

This place is wonderful! It's well setup walkthrough of trees, flowers and plants. Most have identification on them, it's very educational and pretty. We also saw a baby owl!! Highly recommend a visit👍👍

Michael K — Google review

We had a great time listening to music, walking around, and exploring the gardens both inside & out. It was a special fundraiser that was relaxing and fun. The music was just the right, you could hear each other talking, not to loud. There were little pockets to sit in, with just a few others. They also had a cash bar for drinks. All in all, fun, friends, and helping raise money for a worthy cause.

Partly C — Google review

Went here to a rare second bloom. It just so happens I was in town. It only blooms 4 to 5 times in its 40-year life span. The Garden itself is free to get into. Beautiful day to enjoy some nice flora. Nice little gift shop that is worth checking out to grab something to remember the trip.

Flowers are in full bloom and the Blooming Butterfly located inside the Blotz Conservatory was a big hit with visitors, young and old. Olbrich Botanical Gardens is a 16 acre outdoor botanical garden and 10,000-square-foot conservatory in Madison, Wisconsin. Founded in 1952 and named for its founder, Michael Olbrich, the gardens are owned and operated jointly by the City of Madison Parks and the non-profit Olbrich Botanical Society.

David H — Google review

The information desk representative was an exceptional gentleman and very informative/helpful. Great place for family’s and tourists to see a beautiful garden. I was able to get a lot of amazing photos of the plants and they put a lot of love and effort into their establishment. I would say be warned as one of the younger female staff looked tired/bored and seemed to have a tiny bit of an attitude when I asked her a question. Beyond that, some people I had the displeasure of crossing paths with seemed to be bothered with people taking photos, when the website actually encourages you to bring your camera for memorable photos. It seems like some of the visitors here think they are above other people and incredibly snobby. No fault of the staff but would just recommend to watch out for the rude pretentious people that visit this establishment. If you can ignore people acting a little weird/rude, this place is an absolute gem. Outside garden are free, the conservatory was $6/person. Great value and great memories!

Amanda ( — Google review

Very nice gardens. It is a must see in Madison if you like gardens. Most impressive was the Bonsai exhibit & demonstrations. The Bonsai exhibit is periodic. For me I enjoyed that exhibit the best.

Gentle J — Google review

Was beautiful. The walk through of the orchids took about 1 hour. Was hot and humid inside because that's the natural habitat for the orchids, so dress in layers that you can remove. The flowers were awesome! There was also some orange trees, trees, berry trees, cocoa trees and other little surprises. We'll worth the price of admission!Check out the many photos!

Rusty S — Google review

I enjoyed coming here with my family even during the fall time. it was our first time coming here. We loved the tropical green house and walking around. I give this a 5 star for the sweet ladies who helped my father who was hard time walking. they were so helpful and accommodating. I would love to come back during the summer time!

Millie T — Google review

Given the time of the year I visited it, there wasn’t much to see outside, but it was still nice and peaceful (I would definitely visit again during spring or summer). The bright side was the indoor tropical exhibit, where there are different plants and birds. Don’t forget to visit the rooftop! Free parking.

Ana R — Google review

A scheduled stop on a road trip with my son back in 2022. First, this place was a lot bigger than I had expected! We visited in early June and unfortunately, it was too early for the flowers. There were some but not many in bloom yet. That was a bummer. However, the weather was beautiful and we wanted to see the Thai Pavilion and Conservatory. Well, we got handed our second strike and the Conservatory was booked for a wedding and closed to the public. On a positive note, it saved us the cost of entry because the grounds were free to enter. So, we walked the park grounds and took pics of the few flowers we did see and made our way to the Thai Pavilion. Wow! The pavilion is spectacular! It shines in the sun like a palace! We got some great photos of it. We walked through some of the trails in the park but came to the realization that the flowers just aren't going to bloom for us and decided to go. The park is beautiful and I'm sure the Conservatory is great. I bet July & August are the best times to visit. All the flowers would be in bloom by then. I highly recommend this place!

D-Rock T — Google review

The Gardens had a beautiful orchid show when we visited in the Conservatory. The outside gardens were still a nice walk even in February.

R. F — Google review

We only had time for a quick visit in January so we spent about 30 minutes in the conservatory and did not get to walk outside. They conservatory was great! It's such a peaceful atmosphere. It's very relaxing to look at plants, hear the birds and waterfalls, and feel the tropical climate. A little smaller than other similar places we've visited, but still enough to see. The birds were a great touch. We got to see a quail poke around and the canaries were quite vocal. You can also see a few koi in the water. Many orchids and bromeliads and other interesting plants with great color.

Paul B — Google review

The gardens were a breath of fresh air to walk through and get to learn about some of the plants and flowers. A great activity to do with family. The light displays are always so pretty too.

Amanda S — Google review

Is it possible to give more than 5 stars? This place is drop dead gorgeous and the entrance fee is paltry. I came well past the prime season and they still had great things for me to see. I spent 2.5 hours here.

Michael M — Google review

The Orchid Escape exhibition is the best! I love the tropical setting and dinosaur theme, the gorgeous flowers and plants, and the friendly animals. 10/10 best experience for friends, family, and lovers 🦕🌴

Circa-1897 astronomical observatory featuring telescopes, laboratories & tours over a 77-acre site.

Yerkes Observatory currently being renovated October 2021. Architectural treasure near the shore of Lake Geneva in Williams Bay, WI. Well worth the trip. Historic landmark rich in history.

This was such an interesting place. To stand were Albert Einstein once stood was surreal. It was truly a step back in time. Stunningly beautiful. It was history in 3D. Highly recommend for adults that have any interest in astronomy and/or history. Incredible - you will NOT be disappointed.

Stunning restoration and energetic and inspiring tour by a scientist on the Space and Spaces tour. To marvel at the origins of modern astrophysics and think how far we have come in 120 years is humbling and rewarding. Don't miss a chance to visit Yerkes! Advance tickets required. Yerkes also hosts lectures and other events throughout the month, including at the arboretum on site.

Julie B — Google review

Seems like a really neat place to see. We got there at 1pm and scanned the Q r code at the door like the sign said, did not work so we went to the door and meet a guy there said you can’t come in and you can come back next Friday, super rude and unprofessional to say the least how he acted towards up, we asked if we could pay to see it, he said no and you can’t come in and you need to leave right now. There was some other people standing at the door that said to the man, hey thanks for the free tour. I hope this person gets fired! Unbelievable how we got treated. We walked around outside for a while and people kept coming out of the building from the same door for over the next hour. To be treated like scum of the earth from the person working there was not something I wanted our young son to see.

Andy F — Google review

It is still closed for restoration, so we only walked around the grounds. A beautiful landmark, can't wait to tour the inside of of these days. And yes, I fully expect to be amazed by the interior!

P. C — Google review

I am so glad they opened up again and are restoring the building. My 15, 12 and 11 year old kids loved the tour. My daughter even got to push the button to make the observatory deck go down. I'm excited to see what they offer in 2023. Keep up the great work!

Kim A — Google review

We simply stopped by to admire the observatory from the outside - a bit too cloudy and hazy. This is a beautiful building. The architecture is beautiful and the details are something to see - truly don’t make them like this anymore. We were also entertained by a large flock of turkeys that was joined for dinner by a good sized doe.

Really enjoyed our time here today. The tour was incredible and very informative. Lots of history in this place and you can feel it from the moment you step on the grounds. Will be coming back for observation nights in the future. Highly Recommend!

A magnificent place. The Telescope that discovered the Big Bang. Recently flew out to Chicago to visit this observatory outside of Chicago. The building is magnificent the architectural detail is spectacular. There is a story in almost every column in the building. Here is the telescope that Edwin Hubble used, Carl Sagan used and Albert Einstein used. Who knows what future scientist might get their spark for science here.Dan Koehler & Richard Dreiser could not have extended any greater hospitality then they did. I was supposed to observe through the scope that night but the rain had other ideas. Still they made it a wonderful visit. Thank you both! Please University of Chicago make sure that this special place stays intact when it closes on October 1, 2018. This place can fire up the imaginations of young people and enrich many future generations. But most of all this is a wonderful place to visit hurry up and do so before it closes. I hope the Yerkes Observatory finds its ways into the hands of a non profit that will share its telescope with the community and future generations - I hope it will never be turned into condos or dismantled.I hope before the Observatory closes that someone could put a CMOS camera and take some images with the scope. This should be a National Landmark. Wonderful special and beautiful place.

Best tour! On a scale if 1-5 it is a 15. See it while you can! Beautiful architecture. Lots of fun history and science. Entertaining, interesting, behind the scenes info. A restoration in progress - place worthy of support.

My husband and I were in Lake Geneva, looking for things to do. We have an average level of interest in astronomy and history, and we bought tickets to the Yerkes Observatory on a whim. The tour was FANTASTIC -- worth every cent. Walt was our tour guide and he was exceedingly knowledgeable, very passionate about all that is going on at Yerkes Observatory, and super fun. Restoration is ongoing, and it sounds like they are working on developing new programming as well. There's a lot of important and exciting work happening -- we can't wait to come back!

One of the most significant scientific locations of our history. Recently restored from founding in 1897 and is a MUST tour when in Lake Geneva or Lake Delavan area. Beautiful and Historic.

Recently reopened, knowledgeable tour guides for a fascinating piece of local history. Looking forward to when the telescopes are in use for public viewings (estimated spring 2024). Fun partnership with local artists for the tallest glass Christmas tree.

Thsi was the best part of my Lake Geneva trip! The building itself if full of life, beautiful architectural intricacies, and just has a whimsy to it. Our tour guide was fabulous, and the information we got was super fascinating. It is a one of a kind experience and is hands-on at some points, which is something I haven't seen before. I would certainly go back here and recommend it to anyone in the area!

Brielle R — Google review

Talk about a gorgeous building, on an amazing site, with the largest telescope anywhere! Took the mini-tour. It was only 30 minutes, but worth it. They have a 33' spun glass Christmas tree out front. Go see it when it lights up on tge 17th.

Great historic site, exciting to see where these pivotal discoveries happened. Beautiful grounds, amazing instrument that still works.

I've wanted to visit Yerkes for years and it definitely did not disappoint. Our guides were very knowledgeable and their passion made the evening even more enjoyable. We were able to look through the 24" telescope and see several objects but seeing Saturn was amazing. Can't wait to go back once the largest telescope is ready to look through.

Trish C — Google review

What a great place. Largest refractor (lense telescope) in the world. So much history. Great tour.

Bettina A — Google review

Beautiful building, amazing history, and one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had. The restoration work they’ve done is gorgeous. I highly recommend this to anyone who lives in or is visiting the area!

Anne O — Google review

We were unable to get tour tickets for the dates we were in the area, but visited the grounds. We had a great time exploring the exterior of the building and it's historic architecture. We did not finish the grounds trail due to extreme weather. I would go back again to experience the indoor tours.

The Cellar Tasting experience was so fun! They take you down to their cellar room and walk you through the process. After they explain all of the wines on the menu you pick a wine flight with four choices. When your wine flight comes they also give you four chocolate truffles to pair with the wines and a cheese board. The board has three cheeses, three meats, olives, bread and butter, crackers and nuts. Once you get down to the last couple of wines they give you a full glass. Great two hours of enjoying wine and the company you came with.

So my wife and I were in Delavan Wisconsin in August this year for our 4-year wedding anniversary and decided to check out the Staller Estate Winery. Some of our neighborhood friends back home had mentioned it to us and we were very interested so we stopped in to check it out.It was a beautiful day. Sunny and 80°We loved it. They gave us a little tour of the grounds. They've got a beautiful store inside the winery to purchase wines that you taste if you do choose. They have all different types of wines to choose from. White red blush just to name a few. They also have wine flights, wine and chocolate flights, and dessert wine flights. My wife and I both tried some wine flightsAnd also ordered a bread, meat, and cheese platter that was out of this world!Very comfortable and cozy intimate setting.I highly recommend it to couples! Check this place out! It's a fun little thing to do in the afternoon and reasonably priced as well. Definitely will be hitting the Staller Estate Winery back again next year.Thank you to the staff. It was incredible!

Beautiful Winery a short distance from I-43 in southern (Richmond) Wisconsin. Nicely laid out, plenty of room inside and out. Greeted as soon as we walked in. Large selection of wines. Tasting is reasonable. The ($20) meat and cheese tray was incredible. We bought for ourselves and others. Will definitely return. Worth the stop / your time. Enjoy!

Allen W — Google review

I really enjoyed this winery. It had great places to sit both inside and outside. They have a great selection of wines, co*cktails, and food. The staff was very friendly, and we had an excellent time. Even the drive was pretty.

This is a 3.8 star review. You are not in Napa or Sonoma, but this is a delightful little surprise, charming stop over, romantic date idea, or you name it! We happened to find it driving by and enjoyed a quick bottle while sitting by the wine yard. There were other people doing the same and enjoying some snacks and charcuterie boards. A groomed vineyard is such a beautiful view and relaxing. I can imagine what this place would look like in fall and we will be back to find out. Wines are nice, priced very reasonably. They have a big shop/bar area with all kinds of merchandise and wines. They also make co*cktails. Parking is free. There are indoor tables as well as outdoors. Get a bottle and pick your seat!

We did a bachelorette wine tasting here. The whole group loved it! We loved the meat and cheese as well that came with our package. I have a peanut allergy and they were accommodating as well. Was a fun bachelorette stop!

Laura H — Google review

Love their tasting food plate and wine options. Worth the price. Large amount of cheese and bread. The fig jam was superb. Compared to other winery in Wisconsin which either don’t have a tasting menu or provide very little for their tasting menu, Staller is generous with its portions. The seats outside are limited but if you get one the atmosphere is great for enjoying the wines and food you ordered which they will bring out for you.

Jacob — Google review

We had a great experience. The wine tasted good, the atmosphere was great, the little platter that we ordered. The only downside was the attitude of the lady at the counter, I guess one of the owners given that I was under the impression that it was run by a family. When I told her that they should consider installing a baby changing station in their restrooms, she just looked at me and said "I know" with a tone, completely dismissing what I said or what I had experienced minutes ago trying to change a baby diaper in my car. She could have said, "You're so right, we're so sorry about that, I promise we're working on it," and that statement alone would have made me feel better. Instead, her response made me regret tipping them 15% on what I had ordered, plus the wine that I purchased and got home with me. Lady, a baby changing station in today's world, is a necessity, is not a luxury. Please, do better.

Alba — Google review

Let me preface this as saying I truly believe this place deserves 4 stars, but due to reasons soon to be stated, and the vast number of 5 star reviews I only want this to be seen by the owners so as to improve their business.I went here with my girlfriend and upon entering, the interior felt half finished and the dining room had a middle school lunchroom vibe.We were immediately greeted by who I believe was the owner. He was kind and eager to help which was nice. We proceeded to the bar which was definitely busier than they anticipated as service was a bit slow and the confusing ordering/tasting process didn't help. I felt as though the staff were friends and close family of the owner who didn't necessarily want to work as they seemed not too experienced but they did the best they could. We started off by tasting our first 4 comped tastings by working our way down the menu. We decided to then choose our favorite 4 and order a picnic platter. We quickly realized these wines were very different then what we were used to tasting. It tasted as though the wines were immature and needing refining. The Estate Reserve and the Maiden Blush were pretty great actually, but others like the Rock Valley White had too many harsh competing flavors that inhibited the palate from tasting the whole wine. There were strong grape flavors beyond what a typical wine would have across the board. That being said we chose our top 4 and ordered a picnic platter with Prosciutto and Gouda. You get a small wheel of cheese, a generous portion of meat, some nuts, olives, and a baguette. The baguette was easily the best thing we tried here our entire visit. It was fresh, warm, and all around fantastic. The prosciutto however tasted more like salami and less of Prosciutto. I feel as though it should have been aged a bit longer, but the cheese... The Gouda we ordered was absolutely great. Wisconsin really knows their cheeses.Overall Staller was an okay experience that I believe will only (like wine) better with age.

The Dancing Horses Theatre

Performing arts theater

Concerts & Shows

Animal park

The Dancing Horses Theatre is a popular venue that offers a captivating show featuring trained horses and acrobatic trainers in an intimate 300-seat setting. Visitors can expect a spectacle of music, dance, gymnastics, and impressive light and video effects. This family-friendly experience is highly recommended for horse enthusiasts and those who appreciate theatrics. Additionally, there is a petting zoo on-site where children can interact with gentle and sweet animals like goats.

I went here while my 4 year old niece was visiting. She loved it. $5 Pony rides before the show starts. Great for kids and adults alike. Nice seating arrangement. First come first serve. You are literally right up next to the horse ring. Absolutely gorgeous costumes. Fun sound and lighting. Great cast. And of course beautiful and talented horses. The white horse name CaChing was my favorite. Like a unicorn. I definitely recommend coming to see the show. It's about 90 mins with a brief intermission for grabbing snacks and using the restroom. Highly recommend!

Krista P — Google review

These performers love what they do. Take the tour after the show. The animals are well cared for. The theater is very intimate. Get there early and get a ring side seat. You won't be sorry. Take your grand kids and you'll be cool forever

It was a wonderful fantasy eventWell staged and surprisingly comfortable. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. The holiday show is highly recommended especially for younger children and those who have loved horses from a far and want to see these great animals in person. It's a long show but they do an excellent job of keeping it moving with a very well play old Elf skit between horse performances. The only real negative was the length of the intermission which could be cut in half.

R D — Google review

Loved the performance, horses were very talented and beautiful. You can see that owners take good care of their animals and the actors love what they do. Recommend to see at least once for all ages.

Bubblz — Google review

Highly recommend! My kids had the best time at the petting zoo and horse show! Very entertaining! And the goats were very gentle and sweet - which my kids appreciated because we have been to other petting zoos where the goats were very aggressive. Train ride was great too!

AMAZING holiday show!! We were blown away with the talent, outfits, acrobatics and the horses/trainers skills!!! Our 2.5 year old twins absolutely loved the entire show, there was also the option of pony rides before the show. Highly recommend this show and can’t wait to check it out again next year or another time throughout the year

OMG first time visiting The Dancing Horses Theater. We loved the show. They did a great job with the horses. The trainers did a great job. My family enjoyed it. The staff was so friendly.

I LOVED this night I went! So much energy and entertainment that I left with a great memory and a thought of I need to come back! The horses are beautiful and the performers I could tell love their job and the teamwork I saw was so impressive. I can not wait to come back and enjoy another show. We had the whole experience food and the guided tour after the show. It was amazing. I've been riding since I was 4 and it never ceases to amaze me on how a horse and trainer work together. This horse girl can not wait to come back and with my daughter!

Destiny S — Google review

Such an amazing family owned attraction. The horses are beautiful and well-maintained -- you can tell the owners, trainers and performers love the horses and take good care of them. The other animals on property are a fun and unique touch to the experience as well. We will be back to support this family and their dream!

Lisa B — Google review

This is perfect show for young and old. I think the kids loved this place better than Disney. The Christmas show is outstanding. You can definitely see the riders are one with the horses. I even cried in one of the parts as it tells a story. Very entertaining and it fits all budgets. There is one intermission and you can go to the bathroom and get something at the concession stand. Enjoyment for the family. I was told shows change and are tweaked throughout the seasons so I'll be sure to come back often.

BILL H — Google review

We took our daughter here for her birthday and I really had no idea what to expect. It ended up being a show filled with music, dancing, gymnastics, light and video effects, and of course horses! There’s really not a bad seat in the house and the kids had a great time. If you have someone in your family that enjoys horses and theatrics, I recommend this show! We did get the backstage pass which was also quite interesting.

The Lake Geneva Shore Path is a historic public footpath that offers a glimpse into the area's rich history and showcases some of the Midwest's most stunning homes and gardens. The 21/22-mile trail features diverse terrain, including grass, dirt, brick, and concrete sections. Visitors can enjoy the perfect blend of small-town charm and urban entertainment in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The path meanders through private properties, each section maintained by its owners, offering unique experiences at every turn.

If you're looking for a great hike. The North Shore portion of the path offers breathtaking views of the lake and incredible homes.

Drove up from Chicago for a little day trip in Lake Geneva. It is a cute seasonal town, but like most seasonal towns, doesn’t have a lot to do in off-season. We mainly came up to walk the lakeshore path. There are quite a few entry points, some with parking and some with parking about 1/2 mile away to access point.Trail is not accessible for all, it is narrow at most points with uneven ground mainly due to the type of stones or pathway the owners want. It varies from dirt, rocks, flag stone, cement, synthetic wood, etc.you do need to plan as you can’t simply exit wherever you want. One major negative to walking this in the off season is that almost all the owners have their docks and boat lifts scattered all along the path. It’s a major major eye sore. Very disappointing. We noticed the north side had them way closer to the trail and many more of them. South side has more space and most were somewhat out of eye sight and way. They really do interfere with you attempt at a pleasant walk. And during peak season I imagine the trial is packed and that would also make for an annoying walk.

Elizabeth K — Google review

It was a beautiful day. My English bulldog absolutely loves it. Going there I make it his day. I go shopping. He walks until he gets tired and then I put him in his stroller. We have lunch at a restaurant where we can sit outside

Cindy K — Google review

Lake Geneva is a beautiful area to walk around. Beach is nice, but busy & they charge a fee for entrance. We went to the free nature preserve, and it was quiet and relaxing.

Robin M — Google review

I would recommend the west end of the trail for a comfortable walk. The east trail is more difficult and had some spots so overgrown that we were worried about what we were brushing up against. We turned back on the east trail. The west side is good for a casual walk. The east side is better suited for hikers.

Hiked the full 21/22 miles of shore path in one go on a beautiful day in May- so many amazing properties and gardens and mansions that were jaw-dropping. Honestly, something unique at every turn!Trails go through private properties and each portion of the trail is kept up by the owners- so even the trail itself is unique from section to section! Loved it.Total activity time (actual walking) was 8 hours 35 min, we took a break for lunch and a few hours later for coffee and stretched every hour. Started at 9:45 am and finished about 7:45 pm

Emily E — Google review

You could call this walk around the lake an architecture tour. The houses surrounding the lake are huge with some interesting designs. So if you want to ogle some nice houses while being close to nature and stretching your legs this is a nice route to take

Tyron P — Google review

We did about 3 miles out and back from the library NW. loved the walk and the diversity of the houses, yards and paths. Crazy big money on this lake and so amazing we can enjoy the path. Nice fall day so not many out. But can only imagine what it is like in summer if they are out there trying to enjoy their backyard. Respect their yards while you appreciate the walk. We are going to do another stint today.

Nikki — Google review

Enjoyable walking path!! Variety in scenery along the way. Each homeowner along the way is responsible for their section of path, so some path areas are much nicer than others. Be prepared to walk all types of terrain.

ShyGirl 4 — Google review

This is a great path that circles all of Lake Geneva. There are lovely private homes to one side of the path and fabulous lake views on the other side. The trail is not completely flat but we did not encounter any steep inclines on the four miles we covered. However, we have been on this path in both Winter and Spring. We found Winter walking a bit rough. The ground cover changes as you go from grass, to gravel, to stones, to wood, etc... It is a narrow path in some places and it is necessary to step aside at times when people are going in the opposite direction. A local told us that the total path covers about 23 - 26 miles and takes about 8 - 9 hours for her family to cover in it's entirety. We're looking forward to trying it soon.

Miranda S — Google review

We love walking down the shore on the path in Lake Geneva. They have an area that is reserved for dogs only for them to enjoy the lake water. We enjoy watching the dogs swim and play fetch. Lots of things to do in Lake Geneva. Great town but it gets crowded on the weekends.

I love looking at the lake, boats and other people just having a good time with their families & pets. I feel safe there and it's a wonderful place to relax, enjoy nature and good food. Parking can be somewhat difficult but you can park in a side street and walk to park area.

The Fireside Dinner Theatre, situated in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, began as a summer theater and has since grown into a year-round dinner theater. It offers a wide range of productions, from classic musicals to contemporary hits, providing an immersive and entertaining experience for its audiences. With a focus on delivering high-quality performances and culinary excellence, the Fireside Dinner Theatre has become a cherished cultural establishment over nearly six decades.

I would give Fireside Dinner Theatre more stars if I could. I love that place. Yes it's pricier than I like to pay but the experience is so worth it. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is amazing, the staff is so friendly and helpful, and the shows never disappoint. The talent is phenomenal.OK the seats are not generous in size, and it got hot in there, but that's the only negative I can add.The gift shops are fun, always with unique items.I would love season tickets. I would go see every show if it was in my budget. As it is, it's a very special treat once in awhile.

I went to the Fireside Dinner Theatre in Fort Atkinson, WI with my family to see the Jersey Boys! I had never been to the Fireside Theater, and I was very excited about going here for the first time. The show was amazing, and the story was very interesting. The singing and dancing of these actors was so wonderful, and the choreography was so incredible! My feet and hands were tapping during the entire show, and I enjoyed every moment of it! I had an awesome view of the stage, and the lighting was amazing! The food here is so delicious, the servings are very generous. We had soup, salmon, rice and New York style cheesecake, all of it being cooked to perfection! Yesterday, we went to See the Wizard of Oz. From the moment we stepped into the building we felt like family. I haven't been there since I was in high school in the early 80's. My husband and I were in awe. The staff was fantastic! The food was AMAZING! The drinks were top notch. Watching the staff work together was incredible. The facility is beautiful and incredibly clean. Not only did we see the General Manager working just as hard as every one else, but at the end of the performance, the owner was greeting people as they came out of the theater. I can't wait to go back. We were so very happy we chose those for the last day of our vacation. It was a perfect ending to an amazing week. Thank you to all of the staff of the Fireside!

The service here was excellent! We were there for the Friday night buffet. The baked fish with peppercorn sauce was very good. The haddock had a pretty heavy breading, which made it a bit more greasy than we prefer. The chicken wasn't too bad either. The breading was soft vs. a little crisp or crunchy but had good flavor. Other items that were good were the Yukon gold potatoes, potato pancakes, and mac and cheese.

This was my first time to the Fireside, although my daughter and my parents have been attending for years. The service was outstanding, the food was tasty, and well thought out although the variety of options are not enormous. The theater in the round experience after the meal probably varies depending on the show, but the one we saw was really fun, and I've only heard good reviews from the shows I didn't get to attend. We will definitely be back.

SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!!!!! Is all i can say about FIRESIDE. I Went to see MARY POPPINS tonight with my lovely wife of 2 years. We were celebrating our 2nd anniversary and The show was outstanding. The cast phenomenal. It was my first time seeing a Broadway type show and I was floored. I did not need a 'SPOON FULL OF SUGAR' to help the delicious food to go down in a very delightful way thats for sure. Executive Chef J. Cook and his kitchens cooking was 'PRACTICALLY PERFECT' in every way. The wait staff were 'STEP IN TIME' with 'PRECISION AND ORDER'. I can't say enough about my experience. What I will tell you however is that I do plan on going again. Maybe not for MARY POPPINS but I will go again.

My husband and I visited April 6th to watch the evening show of Fiddler on the Roof. The food was amazing, and so was the performance! Our only gripe was when we arrived at the recommended arrival time, the previous show was just getting out and made getting disability parking (and unloading) very tricky. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to shop in the gift shops, due to the lost time.

Thoroughly enjoyed dinner and the play. The food was amazing!! I loved the layout of the Fireside. Cute little shops. Every seat was a great seat in the theater! Highly recommended.

Christine S — Google review

I find Fireside to be a great place. The musicals I have seen have been outstanding. I think they overinflate the price of the food. To say the brunch buffet is $30 and I only get 1 plate of food (consisting of 1 biscuit with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs & 2½ pieces of bacon. Oh and a variety of 5 small pastries. I can't eat anymore) is a bit much. I can see maybe $20 but I think $30 is too much. No matter, I will definitely be going back again! Don't forget, that $100+ spent was for the food, the musical & anything bought in the gift shops.

Pamela T — Google review

I am SO happy with our visit! I got to bring my 6 month old with me and it was our very first time here and I just fell in love with this place! The shops are so adorable, the staff is extremely friendly and our waiter was just absolutely amazing. But the absolute best thing was the scrooge musical. Every single one of those cast members performed from their hearts and you can just tell how much they love to entertain just by how hard they have worked to put on such an amazing show. My little girl was just dancing away with the first song and the very last song, plus she got to wave to “the ghost of christmas past” at the very end and she had the biggest smile on her face. Thank you all so much for a great way to remember my daughter’s very first christmas! The pamphlet is going in her baby book for it being her very first musical. ❤️ Merry Christmas to you all!!!

Brianna C — Google review

A wonderful way to have a magical evening with friends or family. We went on a Thursday buffet night. Servers were very attentive and efficient giving us enough time to browse in the shops before the show started. The performance was entertaining and ended a perfect evening.

D K — Google review

The Fireside is a fantastic dining and entertainment experience in Wisconsin. I have been there many times over the past 25 years, and every visit was really good. The food stresses a quality over quantity approach, but you will be full by the final course. The theater is a unique experience, with audience seating on all four sides of the stage. There are no bad seats. Likewise, the quality of the performances is consistently excellent. This is a great place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday.

Scott N — Google review

I typically don’t rate 5/5 stars, but this was very well deserved. Beginning with the service, our waitress was friendly, polite, and professional. She was helpful answering questions regarding the menu, and was highly efficient. The pace that the food was served was timed out perfectly, and the portions are well calculated. Tasting the food was on another level… the food was cooked at their respective rates. Posted is the appetizer, tomato soup. It was creamy and flavorful it came out hot, but not burning your mouth hot. The strawberry daiquiri was dangerous as little alcohol was tasted and the strawberry was very heavy. That being mentioned, it was delicious as it wasn’t too icy where I had to wait for it to melt. It was a perfect amount of slushy and hit the spot for an alcoholic drink before a show! The salmon, potatoes, cauliflower, and broccoli, with melted butter in a small side bowl is also pictured. The salmon was flakey, melted right in your mouth, and the seasoning was blissful. Potatoes were cooked just right, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Broccoli was buttery and savory along side with the cauliflower. Lastly, there was the black cherry chocolate cake. It was very most and fluffy. It was a nice light touch after a hardy meal and it definitely was the cherry on top! I’m not a huge fan of cherries, but the sauce did it justice. The temperature of the building was comfortable. The restaurant is a tad chilly, but after you sit for a while it gets warm. The theatre definitely gets warm with all the body heat, but it cooled down in the second half and made it for a pleasant second act. Overall the temperature of the building is comfortable, and I’m one to get cold easily and had no issues. Moving onto the show, it was something like no other. A square theatre, and intimate for actors and the audience to kind of “interact” with each other. It’s always laughter, smiles, light and warm conversations before and after!

Little Amerricka Amusem*nt Park

Amusem*nt park

Water & Amusem*nt Parks

Go-kart track

Ice cream shop

1950s-style amusem*nt park with restored classic rides, a wooden coaster & a kiddieland for tots.

A great amusem*nt park with many ride choices for kids of all ages. They have a height and wristband system which makes it easier for kids of all ages to go into their age+height appropriate rides. Also, those wristbands give you unlimited access to the rides. You can easily spend the whole day here. The park is clean and well-maintained. The staff is very friendly and courteous. We had a great time. There is ample of open parking on unpaved grounds which is near the entrance of the park. The park was not too crowded (we went on a Sunday).Go! Have fun!

Mustafa S — Google review

This is an absolute treasure! An old-fashioned, family-friendly 1950's type amusem*nt park with kids for everyone! From your smallest toddler to grown-ups. Tickets aren't higher than $27, and that includes all rides, mini golf, go carts, and water cars. I have a young adult who uses a wheelchair for mobility. Victor, who worked the wooden coaster, Jason, who worked the tilt a whirl, and the gentleman working the other spin ride were so wonderful to help me get her on and off the rides and made her day wonderful. I think his name was Chris, but I am not 100% sure. I wish some of the rides like the carousel had a ramp to access instead of steps, but we figured it out. They have a reasonably priced cafe with hamburgers, dogs, brats, nachos, etc, along with ice cream treats. They do, however, allow you to bring in our own lunches and snacks. Check times before heading out. The train ride is a must to just sit back and relax and a little journey through the country.

Sandi L — Google review

The park was amazing and the staff was outstanding!!! It was a wonderful place to host a birthday party and I'm so glad we chose here. Everyone was friendly and the rides were safe and secure. I would give this establishment a 10 out of 10 stars and 100% well done!!! Thanks guys!

Chelsea H — Google review

With no admission charge, it's a great place to take the family & spend the day. The rides are very reasonable priced & the food at the concession building was also reasonable. The staff was friendly & appeared to enjoy helping visitor's have a pleasant experience.

Lynn R — Google review

Really enjoyed our afternoon at Little Amerikka. Nice variety of rides! Fun for our kids from 4 to 9. The train ride was worth the cost of the blue wristbands alone!

Laurie B — Google review

If I could give this 10 stars, I would! We have been to parks all across the country, big and small, and I can say I’ve had as much fun here as any. They have a collection of seriously rare rides that are all in great condition. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.Don’t even get me started on the train. How is this train not winning a Golden Ticket award for the best amusem*nt park train ride every year? 3 mile train ride on a perfect 1/3 scale train!!As you can tell, I loved this nostalgic place and so happy we stopped.

Andy K — Google review

Loved it. A huge hit of nostalgia if you like old carnival and amusem*nt park rides. The people working the rides reminded me of the old carnivals and small amusem*nt parks I went to when I was young. I would assume that they worked those rides diring the time when these rides were prevalent. They were almost as fun as the rides. It clearly shows that this place is a labor of love for many involved. Highly recommended.

Robert S — Google review

Little Amerricka is an old school amusem*nt park perfect for kids 1 to 100! Bumper cars, Go Karts, roller coasters that are perfect for all ages. Tilt-a-wirl, scrambler, a must DO narrow gauge train ride. Snakes a treats are reasonably priced as well as any souvenirs you may like. And, you only pay to get in if you are riding the rides. Otherwise, free admission. We stayed from noon to 5:00 and had a blast! It was myself, (age 54) and 4 children, ages 7 to 10.

Debbie W — Google review

Once I pulled in the Parking area, I was stunned on how vintage this place appeared to be. The parking was free, so that was an instant plus to me. The park might not look large, but my curiosity arose just looking at it.They had different options to choose from for the Unlimited Ride Pass. I bought the Blue Pass and so did my significant other. It was $21.95 plus 5.5% wisconsin sales tax. At the counter, I was able to get a free park brochure. That made for a nice souvenir. The first ride of the day for us was Little Dipper. This was a small ride and we had to sit separately on this. It went around the track twice. I’d say this one is better for small children. It was still an enjoyable ride.We rode the Ferris Wheel. We did get to sit together on this one and it was pretty revealing. It went around fast. I was surprised by that. I didn’t care for this ride.Whiskey River Railway was a must for me. This Train Ride was a 30 Minute Ride. There was a schedule posted on when the train left. We left at 2:20. We sat together on this as well and there was plenty of seating available. We passed a lot of different scenery, including what seemed to be a river. This ride seemed to take awhile to finish. It was a relaxing break from the other rides. I recommend it!The Meteor was a wooden ride. We were able to sit next to each other. The speed was fairly fast and took us around the track three laps. I would still say it’s a mild ride. I enjoyed it, but I felt that one lap was sufficient. The Haunted House was a bust for me. This was a self-guided attraction that has you in a dark setting from start to finish. There weren’t any actors inside. A lot of figures lit up as we went through the house. Be advised that there are tight spaces. It was worth the try just to say that I did it.The Monorail gave a better view of the park than any other ride in my opinion. We rode next to each other on this one. It didn’t move too fast. Just like Whiskey River Railway, this was a break from other rides. I liked it.The last ride of the day for us was Test Pilot. I’m glad I chose to do this one last, because I came out feeling nauseous and dizzy. We sat together in the same unit, which didn’t seem too good, because this ride threw me around a bit. First we went frontwards and after the ride was complete, the ride attendant asked if we wanted to go backwards. I didn’t want to miss an experience, so I said yes. The backwards ride definitely finished me off. I came off this ride feeling horrible! I did not like this ride at all.The Mens Room near Whiskey River Railway was a private restroom. It was clean! The entire park was actually clean. The employees throughout my visit here were kind and helpful. I didn’t have any issues with the service I was provided.Overall, this was a budget-friendly amusem*nt park to experience. I wouldn’t say that you could spend the whole day here, but I’d still recommend that anyone who loves rides, should at least check it out.Date of visit: 6/3/23

Chaddy A — Google review

First time there with our Granddaughter who is 4, she loved it! Nice variety of rides for all ages. So nice you can bring in your own food. They have areas where you can have parties. Nice staff!

ilovecamping — Google review

This was our first time going to Little Amerricka, and it was amazing! We were able to reserve a tent for a birthday party. It was a great deal! My kids had a blast. We will definitely be back and probably purchase a season pass.

Rebekah L — Google review

Honestly pretty disappointing. I was hoping to find a classic local amusem*nt park with retro charm and instead I got a lazy collection of badly maintained rides and rude employees. Some of the rides were actually super fun and I'm glad to have been on them, but don't really foresee myself ever coming back. Worth the stop in just for mad mouse at least though.

Graham S — Google review

10/10We came on a weekday with my 4 year old and one year old and had such a fun time. The prices were reasonable for the rides and food. You don’t have to pay for parking. The wristband by height is genius. They let you go on every ride for a decent amount of time so you don’t feel like you waited for a ride that was over in seconds. The lines were never long. Best of all the staff was so nice and friendly. The train ride is great. Very enjoyable day. We will be back.

Holly N — Google review

Went from 12:30-5:00 (closing). Lines for the rides weren't too long. Ride employees were super friendly and talkative with the riders. I am always super impressed by the employees here. My 7 year old and 12 year old had lots of fun riding everything using their gold wristbands.

Marie A — Google review

Love how qauint but fun this amusem*nt park is. Perfect rides for my special needs 9yr old that aren't to advanced but aren't to simple. But also has rides that cater to younger kids too.

History museum

Sights & Landmarks

This sprawling historic site & garden re-creates life & work on a late 19th-century farmstead.

Legends and Lore Halloween event was top notch!I am hard of hearing so couldn’t hear almost anything, however my son told me each story as we walked to the next - with amazing reviews!!! There was one stop (again couldn’t hear a thing) where the story teller was so captivating that I couldn’t look away!Excellent event! Had a fantastic time.

Kayla G — Google review

Went here for my son's boy scout troop community service project & it was so dang cool. I had no idea it was over 400 acres so if you plan on visiting clear your schedule for the day & bring good shoes lol. Seriously tho it was pretty awesome to see all the old villages & farmhouses, definitely a must at least once in your lifetime.

Crystal R — Google review

This is a wonderful piece of Living History that everyone should experience. On a huge acreage of land, there are many different ethnic Settlements that describe, by the Docents, what life was like on a farm at the turn of the 20th Century in Wisconsin. This is so important to learn and see and understand, especially now in our automated-run world. Learning the basics of homesteading is always beneficial. There are trams run by volunteer workers to give a guided tours or if you want to walk and take a self guided tour.. you may do that as well. Also, the gift shop has many interesting items for purchase.

Luann L — Google review

I just love this place! Check out the historical society membership for $85 gives you a year of free entry with self and one guest plus day two passes. This will also give you free access to other historical sites and discounts on food, drinks and gifts. A day well spent!

Nicole H — Google review

Pleasant staff, reasonable prices lots of space to walk around and places to see, historically accurate recreations and rebuilt structures. Closest thing to "West World" that there is.

Dave A — Google review

Visited their Halloween special, and wow, it was fantastic! Spent the full time 530-930 and didn't get to see everything (some lines were long, but come back after kids have left). Students from KMHS put on some great performances, park staff was also very enjoyable. Only negative was 1 food truck, and they were overwhelmed (most sold out before we could eat, plus 45 wait in line).

Bikes W — Google review

Great place to let the kids get their energy out and learn at the same time. The trams make it easy and fun to transport to each ethnic area. The grandkids were in awe of what people didn't have back then. Interactive items like the tricycles make it interesting for young and old!! This Grammy had a beautiful sunny mother's day there. Thanks for the free pass!

Brenda K — Google review

Although the interiors of the exhibits were not as fully accessible yet, the docents had plenty of fun activities outside to participate in. Alot of animals to see and the garden areas just beautiful. Very excited to see the brewery building coming along.

Sara T — Google review

My daughter took me there for Mother's day. I love history and this place is full of it. After checking my steps and converting them into miles we walked 6.5 miles and I would do it again. Doing something I love with one of my favorite people was an experience I will never forget. Thank you for providing a beautiful place to make a beautiful memory.

Shauna — Google review

We went on July 3rd as a family and had a blast. Such a cool place to slow down, experience our past in a hands on way, and try your hand at living daily life as they did a century ago. Wonderful people. Great food and beer. We go 2-3x per summer.

Shannon J — Google review

My happy place!! I absolutely love stepping back in time at Old World! The staff is so kind and there are always fun events to attend. No matter if you are going with kids or other adults there is so much to see and do.The addition of the Brewhouse is so fun. There is beer for sale in addition to samples of beers brewed in historic ways! I can’t wait to see what they do with the new tavern!

Julia S — Google review

The presenters at the buildings/exhibits were all very knowledgeable and friendly. The Pomeranian farmer did a great and involved presentation on flax and making a linen shirt.

MICHAEL L — Google review

One of my favorite places to visit ever since a young age. Attended the Halloween/folklore event, and it was so fun per usual!

Valerie H — Google review

An awesome place to check out. We got there right at 10 AM when it opened and left at 2 PM and we didn't check every single place out. Great people working there showing off their skills of the old way. Trams that will stop at the shuttle stops about every 10-15 minutes. It is a great place to check put, I would highly recommend it.

Brent B — Google review

Wonderful family experience on homeschool field trip day to learn how early European settlers lived every day life in the 1800s: homesteading, the buildings, farming crops, raising animals, one room school house, making your own shoes from leather, childhood old fashioned games, ride a giant cycle bike, and more! What a fun day learning! The actors who portrayed the roles were very knowledgeable about their tasks and helpful in answering questions and explaining what they were doing and the history behind the buildings. We will definitely be back.

Emily G — Google review

Close to nature, this living museum is a wonderful experience and a beautiful window to the past. It gives visitors an appreciation of how life is back in the day and an appreciation of some conveniences of life that we have now.

Marcella C — Google review

This was very cool! Went with my kiddo on a field trip. They thought it was really fun and we learned a lot too!

Drew R — Google review

It was nice, not as many volunteers in the building as I remember. Would have liked to hear more about the history part of the house and have the kids know about the day in the life of the people that lived there. The young man driving the tram gave us the most information.

Kimberly S — Google review

Fantastic! Everything is spread apart so it never feels crowded and there’s tons of walking—or tram stops if you prefer. So much history, nature, and beauty! Can’t wait to go back!!! $15 per person-excellent gift shop, friendly staff, spectacular interpretation; perfect place to let the kids “run around” The other guests were polite and minded their manners too, which is always a plus! Respect for each other, nature, and history was present everywhere! The only problem we had was the map distances weren’t to scale. The 0.3 mile trail was five times longer on the map than the 0.6mile trail.

Megan K — Google review

What a wonderful experience for the entire family. My kids found lots of fun experiences (and really enjoyed washing clothes). Using the trams to get to each area worked well and gave us a little break from walking. All the staff were very knowledgeable and really did a great job of explaining things to the kids, while also being informative to me (as a history teacher). We are already planning on returning later in the year to see what changes with the seasons.

Johnson Creek Premium Outlets

Outlet mall

Factory Outlets

A decent outlet mall. It's spread out into two different areas. It has a few shoe stores, a true Bath & Body outlet which has awesome deals, a fairly large Old Navy and a cute stationary/gifts store called Lang which is local among many more stores. Only a few vacancies at the time of this review.

Brittany E — Google review

I just got lost and ended up in this town! WOW what a beautiful place, The police are the best! Thank you

Terra D — Google review

To be honest it wasn't worth the drive! Nike outlet sucked, they literally had NO SHOES the options they did have weren't worth looking at let alone buying. Adidas had 40% off but they think were stupid and we don't notice they raised their prices on EVERYTHING & not to mention every pair if Adidas were the same other then the shell toed but poorly made and not worth the drive the one store that had an AWESOME sale!! They had 50% off certain items and 60% on others..LOVED IT, THANX Coach!!!

Ny'Cole Z — Google review

You surely will find better deals at main stores. Outlet and sale prices are crazy ridiculous. 2 uniform sets cost me $135 My coach purse was $30. Cheaper on line! Bras were crazy priced. Definitely cheaper at Kohl's or Macy's won't be going back there.

DeWain C — Google review

I really like this outlet mall. All the workers I met at my last visits were very nice and friendly. I was welcomed right when I walked in. The Coach outlet was my favorite shop and the employees were very helpful and kind. They answered my questions and helped me with my purchase. I live pretty far so haven’t been able to go for a while but definitely plan to go again someday! Highly recommend

Perfume hut is the best place to visit! They have different kinds and even the ones you can’t find in other stores. They also have knowledgeable staff that help you pick your fragrance.Highly recommended!

My family and I shop here at this outlet often. We always find what we want and what we need. The employees at all the outlets are so pleasant, and it’s always great customer service of course😊

Neisha M — Google review

I go to the Nike Outlet here. I deducted a star because they have pretty high prices. Find out about sales and then come here. There is many great stores here!

Dustin W — Google review

Completely and absolutely useless. Rewind a decade ago and this was the spot. Not so much now.The national chains have nothing, most stores moved out and the non-national stores are extremely underwhelming.

Dean K — Google review

One of the best shopping experiences I’ve had. The deals were fantastic and the clothes were high quality. I really like the feel and everyone was super friendly. Definitely recommend a shopping trip here.

Texas M — Google review

Kind workers, clean store. The rating comes from a lack of merchandise. I got an amazing deal on a jacket! Love the prices!

Paige T — Google review

Went to the Bath and Body Works store. There were a few employees working today. However, they were not of assistance to help with customer questions. They did however, keep an eye on you as if you would shoplift from their store. Johnson Creek Bath and Body Works is worse than the one in Pleasant Prairie. I wouldn't have given them one star. They would have gotten no star.

Carmella T — Google review

Been going here since it opened over 2 decades ago. Way more than you can take in in one day without getting overwhelmed.

Andy B — Google review

Not a huge directory, but you may find better deals than in Pleasant Prairie, especially if you go for Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger

Vukasin G — Google review

Very quiet day in the stores we were in. Got lots of attention & help.

Glor M — Google review

It's always fun shopping here!!!We always stop at our favorite shops. It's fun to find good deals every now and then. Just have to be careful because some places do NOT take returns! So it kind of is too bad because we would shop for Christmas gifts here but don't want to take our chances.

Abby C — Google review

This is an outlet mall with a wide selection of stores. I love that they have a Clark's shoe store, those are my go-to for work shoes. I remember when this place was built when I was a kid. Glad to see it's still going strong.

Jessica F — Google review

Great prices.Awesome selection. There are great companies there and they have a perfect prices. Like Tommy Hilfiger, Polo, RalphLauren, Adidas, Nike, etc.Highly recommended.

Ismail A — Google review

My son always enjoy shopping here as he can pick the stores he wants to go to an void the rest. Always a good deal to be found.

Mrs. R — Google review

I always find great stuff here for very cheap. Lots of stores to choose from! Awesome place overall.

Ganim Q — Google review

Surprisingly I am well pleased with the Johnson Creek Premium Outlet Mall. I do like the outdoor style malls; even if it's cool outside you may want to leave your jacket in the car... because the stores still keep the temperatures very warm and you may get a bit hot and then frustrated you have to carry your coat around while you shop. Some of these stores have better deals than others for their "outlet" prices, just keep looking.

Christina K — Google review

I love this place. Went to the Nike store today but will be going back for sure.

Octagon House Museum

Architectural Buildings

Tours of a 5-story, octagonal house from 1854 with old photos & other historical objects on display.

Well worth the trip to see this amazing house and contents. The tour guide was amazing. She knew the house, its contents, history of the family and surrounding area. My favorite part was the spiral staircase. The quality and construction of it (and the whole house) is astounding. If you're ever in the area, stop by to see it.

Scott N — Google review

This is a great place to visit. What an interesting architectural home! The venting achieved by the design of circular staircase in center of home, and windows/french doors across from each other is super!! We need that today in homes! Our tour guide was excellent, working there 25 years she knows the history without script, and gives you details when you ask questions. She even dresses the part in period dress. The grounds are well done and maintained. The barn with it's historical pieces, and the first registered kindergarten adds another level of interest to your visit which you do on your own. Close to the Rock River it is a lovely neighborhood as well. Stop in when you are area, call for times and days available during the rest of 2021 season.

Loved it! Very interesting! Had very informative guide. Took about an hour. Lots of stairs.Pic from top floor down of circular stairs case. Beautiful!Other pic of the outside front of house.Large windows are really French doors. They were taxed by how many windows in the home. This house is mainly French doors. :) Cool idea to get out of paying taxes on the home! :)

What a wonderful assortment of products, cheese and sausage of course with samples galore but also chocolates, jams, canned veggies and wines etc...the staff was friendly and helpful and in all ways this was a great experience...the one thing that struck me when we first entered is a slight musty smell..maybe cigarettes? You forget about it as you shop but its just not the best first impression when you first walk in...I will still readily go back, the cheese is outstanding

Good selection of products. Friendly worker. But someone is smoking in there all the time and the lighting is so low that it is difficult to read a label. Please someone give this place a good cleaning. I have been coming here for years and was very disappointed.

Ah, Wisconsin. Home of cheese. And when one thinks of Wisconsin cheese, one must think of Schultz's Cheese Haus. A bonafide classic establishment peddling all sorts of edible delights from meat sticks to chocolate to wine to crackers, and yes, cheese. Plenty of free samples to be had whilst choosing what to take home, and trust me, you'll want to take home more than you can think. Friendly staff inside and a relaxing shaded outdoor area to enjoy a quick wine-and-cheese snack.

We were driving by good # of times and eventually made a stop. Great place, great cheese selection (not as many as in Monroe Alp's store, but still great variety). Lots of other cool stuff. Highly recommend

Adorable & well stocked cheese, wine, and everything in between shop. They let you do tastings of all cheeses and wine and they have great add ons when I went such as ornaments, crackers and other trinkets to give. The staff are so friendly and just delightful 😊

What great find. When in Wisconsin i have to get cheese. Mandatory truck stop. The mustards are wonderful, the jams are deelightful, and the cheeses are stanky deeeliscious. 😀 store was clean, service was friendly. Thank yall, made my day not stanky...

We stopped on the way back from the Fox Valley. They have just about everything Wisconsin. All kinds of hats shirts trinkets for Badgers Packers and Brewers. Even have cheese heads. There are 2 coolers with cheese to choose from with samples. Also have a selection of chocolate treats. Top it off with a selection of wine. They even had bottles of Charles Woodson whiskey.

It was OK. The samples were nice. Lots of merchandise for Packers, some for bears and Vikings too. A handful of good cheese options, but the place stank of cigarettes. Plenty of parking was available, there was a nice picnic area had it not been so cold out. The prices were fairly reasonable.

I was impressed, nice things from Wine too Cheese and various gifts in-between. I had a good shopping experience. Great for last-minute gifts.

This Cheese Haus on the side of the high way was the highlight of my trip. I loved the little samples and their variety of cheeses and souvenirs.
